First of all, I would like to know how much gas is in your area and how much it takes to fill up your tank.
For some reason I filled up my tank from empty this morning and it cost $25. I got from wpb florida to south beach miami (1 hour 15 minutes) with $25 in the tank and that was it.(I think) It wouldn't stay running and kept backfiring under the hood, or atleast sounded like it. I checked everything, everthing that mattered was hooked up. Fuel read half tank or bit more. I disconnected the MAF sensor and put in $10 of high grade gas thinking I had bad gas or to much ethanol. I got it to run and got it home.
I ask for the information so I can try to pinpoint something. It's happened before and I had no idea it was out of gas. Needle said I had gas. This time it said I had half a tank. Now I know $25 will fill up a scooter. So it has to be my sending unit. I hope. I also ask so I can try to figure out if i'm getting good gas mileage compared to another 2.3l. Thanks guys.
I NEVER trust my needle. I always go by the old reset your miles after every fill up. I know around town after 200 miles i need to start looking for gas. On the highway i can go well over 320 miles without having to start look. The most miles out of a single tank i got before i filled up was 387 miles. I had something like 1.5 gallons left too.
My tank is a 16 gallon one though. And gas is $2.35 last i checked. NJ had cheap gas and we don't pump it
First of all, how many gallons of fuel did you pump? It's miles per gallon that counts, not miles per dollar.
Telling us a dollar amount doesn't help, and wanting to know what we pay is irrelavent to your situation.
The F12B tank on all Fox body Mustangs is right near 15.5 gallons.
Here is my recommendation:
1. Get a 1 or 2 gallon gas container, fill it and put it in your car somewhere.
2. Fill up the car and make note of the odometer
3. Drive it until ir runs out of gas. Pour in gas from container and note odometer.
4. Get to a gas station. Note odometer and fill tank. Subtract the gas added and do the math.
After doing this, we can get a better idea of how to answer your questions!

It was about 8 gallons. My needle has to be off, but what do I replace?
Ok.... It seams to be low and start sputtering when the needle gets to the first line above half full. I pushed the ass-end of the car before I added gas and I heard a little gas swishing around. So I added 3 gallons and I got her home. Can this have to do with the 5.0 fuel pump and sending unit I put in it? Are they the same besides LPH? When I bought the car he told me the needle was a little off. Also, I never replaced the seal around the filler tube. When I add gas it stops me saying it's full but apparently not. WTF!?!?!? Please help.
It might be a filler neckproblem. Try forcing the gas in there until the point where it almost burps up into your face. Then drive it till its empty. And figure out empty by knowing the mileage your car gets and multiplying it by the size of your tank but leave a gallon or two extra just in case. So lets say you get 25 mpg and have a 14 gallon tank. drive 300 miles which should use 12 gallons leaving you 2 gallons. Go to fill-up and see if you take 12 gallons. And use the same fill-up till it burps in your face method. need to stay consistent.
Update..... After I put 3 gallons of gas in to get it home, I put gas in it this morning. It only took 1 gallon before it starting spitting gas at me. Again it went from half tank to full. But on the way home it started to sputter again. I only work a couple miles from my house. Now I know there is gas in it. But what is happening?
drain the gas, drop the tank and check it out... Sorry that's all I got. Some self diagnosis might help the situation... You've already dropped the tank once right? All the times after the first is a breeze man!
