Default Where is my fuel filter?

I traced all of the fuel lines and cant seem to find it I even took the wheel liner out so I could see in the fender well. Could the previous owner have replaced fuel lines without putting one back on? I am really confused right now

Its not there. The fuel lines come out from the tank and go straight down the passenger side to the fuel pump. Im seriously starting to think the dummy didnt put one on

If you have an 84 SVO, the stock (I repeat, stock) location is on the frame rail just forward of the rearend on the passenger side, right next to the rail mounted fuel pump. Is there an "S" shaped fuel line there?

If someone converted to an 85.5 or 86 system, it would be above the rearend.

Now, some idiot may have done a mod deleting it too.

i cant quite remember when stangs went up to fuel injection , but are you still carburated? if so, then your filter should be right on the carburater.
but i wouldnt put it past a previous owner to have screwed with it. how old do the current fuel lines look? if they look new enough that the previous owner could have replaced them then my moneys on idiotocy. if they look ancient/stock, then you must continue the hunt for the filter.

I can see the fuel pump right where it should be. No filter. No S shaped fuel line. Should I cut the lines and put it back in where it belongs?
It is fuel injected. And the lines don't look 25 years old so
The more I get into this car the more retarded stuff im finding. I installed some new speakers in the back and the mess I found there was very interesting.

oy vey. yea if youre fuel injected then the filter shoulda been on the rali right before the tank. so the previous owner deffinately deleted the fuel filter.
if you have the experience and feel confident and are thoroughly versed in splicing fuel lines then go forth and splice away . if not, then take it to the mechanic. cuz you really should have some sort of filter on there.
just make sure you know what youre doing, those are high pressure lines. but if you do it yourself it shouldnt take that long, mazybe an hour.
if you need advise on splicing the line yourself dont be afraid to ask someone. i'd give you more, but when my stock lines sprung a leak last winter i just took it to the mechanic. (they were just complete crap from stem to stern and it was 10 degrees out lol. i caved)

Ok NAVY is correct the SVO has an external pump and an internal pump. Sounds like someone eliminated the filter. Well there is two trains of thought on this??? Let the intank sock act like your fuel filter or learn how to work with hard line. The original lines are obsolete at the ford store. And that means making new ones. You will need to be vursed in the art of making ford flairs and working with a hydrulic tubing former to get the ford ends on the lines you make. You are dealing with high preasure fuel line and special flares. Dont think you just cut in a filter with some hose clamps. Thats a NO NO. If you really want a filter it does not have to be an original ford unit. It can be an aftermarket unit installed with AN line. Good luck.Note if you never worked with high preasure fuel lines have a pro install it. Good luck TOM

I just found out that if your svo was made before 2/83 then you have two fuel pumps. Internal and external. They cost $50 a piece. Luckily for me mine was made in 1/84 so I just have one fuel pump for $40. Im going to change it today. Ill probably just pay someone to put the filter in there.

Correct.

84 and early 85 models have dual pumps with the rail mounted filter.

Late 85 (what some refer to as the 85.5) and 86 model year cars have a single in-tank pump with the filter mounted above the rearend.

The fuel sock on the pump is not your best bet. Sorry TOM, I can't agree on that one. Also, you need to get the filter housing (bracket) for the filter as well.
