Default How to improve mpg

I just got my 2.3 efi, automatic transmission, going and I checked my mpg and it was 21 with mostly highway driving. What are some thing I could do to get my mpg up and what should be expected from a 2.3 automatic? Thanks

first of all, hi neighbor! we arent that far away from eachother. nice to find another fox running around locally.
as for your question, yea, do a tune up on your engine first.
if you feel inclined take off the air conditioning belt, it will get you another 1-2 mpg because it will be removing parasitic power from the system.
you can also delete (remove) the air silencer, and take a few minutes and clean the oxygen sensors. this should be another 1-2 mpg.
driving habits, obviously, play a part. try shifting into neutral at long stoplights to idle, might get you a little more mpg.
it would be a good idea to put your cars specs in your profile, because if you have a convertible rather than a coup or hatch it will affect your mpg as convertibles are heavier, so you wont get as good mileage as the other types. and if your engine only has 4 spark plugs then you wont get quite as good mpg as one of the later engines that have 8 plugs.
fyi, i'm a 2.3 non turbo 8 plug coup automatic a4ld tranny n i'm getting average of 28 mpg.
good luck on your stang
