I know some may be mad by this thread considering I know there is other threads out there like this one but im still confused after reading them. I have a 2.3l Turbo In a 1988 Thunderbird. Im not sure what computer is in it i believe its an La3. What is the ideal setup. Can i get a biger VAM and is there a more perfered computer to get. Just trying to get an education any info would be appreciated.

With the LA3 (or LB3) you should be running a 3-1/8" VAF meter. You cannot go bigger as this is the largest one made.

Now, if you were to get a J-port interface (like Jbird) you could convert to MAF and improve airflow. With that said, you will need to know how to manually tune and burn files for that. Doing this is a WHOLE other ballgame.

The stock VAF meter will support over 300 HP.

Hi Curt Tom here. I am setting up a blow through VAM on a 2.3 mustang 2.3T and i am going to spin it as soon as i finish. My thoughts are at the boost side of the turbo the VAM should flow more air. This will be the first time i am trying this setup. Its going to be interesting to see what happens. I know i have to rework the spring some what but HAY YOU NEVER KNOW. I will keep you posted TOM

Hey Tom. Read over on Turboford.net. You need to make a strap over the Vam or the it will vam will blow. I assume blow off the plastic cover. Since pretty good on tuning. I seen a guy using the 93 na computer and maf. Making it blowthru. Putting at the throttle body and then reprogramming. What is your thoughts. He posted it about a year ago. Maurice

Good point welder DUDE. I never thought about that one. Thanks for the tip. Dont you hate it when you blow up a vam, Pritty embarising to say the least. Well that puts a wrench in the works. Maybe its time for speed density .Well an air flow meter is probably the answer. Because i would have to run at least a 3 bar map??????????? I will have to rethink this whole project. D'OE

If your TC is a 5-speed, you have an LA3. If it's an auto, you have an LB3. Basically the same computer. Either one is what you want. All '88 TC's came with the large VAM. You have the preferred setup, LA3/LB3, large VAM and browntop injectors.

This is of course assuming nobody has swapped/cannibilized/whatever over the 22 years the car has been on the streets.
