Default Is there an online electrical schematic for 88 Turbo Coupe?

Well, it finally happened.

Problem developed on the *new* old car.

Noticed that the cooling fan is not coming on.
I was going through the manual and starting the test (check motor by directly connecting to battery - yes, it works..)

That is when I noticed that the manuals I have (from the factory) don't really give a good electrical schematic. They tell me to check Circuit 45. But they don't say where it is at. If it said Pin 45 on EEC I could find that but Circuit is a bit ambiguous to me.

I have both B manuals, the D and the Electrical & Vacuum Troubleshooting Manual (along with the do it yourself book.) I saw a picture online of the EEC schematic that isn't listed in my book.

So, I was wondering if there is another manual AND if it is online to help me figure out my problem.

Thanks for any help.

On a 88 model I would say check the ect [engine coolant sensor] It is between injector 2 and 3. Or could be the IRCM module on passenger fender. Of course could be a fan failure. Here is the info that may help. Maurice
Wiring Diagram
2.3 Turbo EEC-4 Specifications, Part Numbers, Calibration Codes, and Pinouts
Here how to test sensor. Note these also apply to non turbo cars for you non turbo 2.3

Wiring diagram for a 88 also has diagram for the IRCM

Well, that gives me something to start with.
Thanks Maurice.

And if I might ask, what is the source for your last one,
http://www.rothfam.com/svo/reference/88Thunderbird.pdf ???

Remember wiring diagram was easier to read in my 80 Mustang factory manual.

And I thought the engine coolant sensor was between injectors 3 and 4.
Just out of the reach of my hand. Grrr!

The cts is probably shot. The Ecm sends a ground out to theIRCM on pins 52 and 55 to command on the fans. a ground on 14 or 17 on the ircm will run the fans to test the relays pink wire or tan orange at the ircm. hope this helps TOM

I'm guessing Coolant Temp. Switch.

I really would like to find a manual with those damn electrical connections clearly labeled and where to find them.

Otherwise, solved the problem. Should have done the wiggle test first. Think one of the fan motors is aftermarket. But I felt the lead to the CTS (yes, that is the official name for it, just checked my manual) and it was loose as a goose. Cleaned and tightened it and noticed problem still. So, reached the electrical connection to one of the fan motors and it came on.

I think whoever had the car before me switched the leads around to the electrical motors. The 4 bladed one on the top came on first. I think the bottom one with 7 blades is the primary fan. Anyone care to confirm this for me?

Before I go on, thanks MG Man for posting the pdf link to the TC.
Found the H manual there. Still bought one and am waiting for it.

And thank you Tom for answering my questions PM.

But going through the diagnostics, I come to step X72.

What is the processor they are referring to there?
The ECM?
That is what I think but want to be clear on it.

Thanks.

Got it MG Man.
And thanks to Tom, found exactly where the culprit is.
Used the manual to pinpoint the temp sensor on the intake manifold. I always thought it was below the intake manifold, not on it.

Trip to ford dealer tomorrow and i'll be a happy camper.

Will just need to take care of the antilock break light. I think that should be easy to take care of.

*tony just jinxes himself*

Good luck on the antilock. What I have read alot have removed all that. And went to regular brakes. Conversion if needed is here. It is in the list. It is a file not a link to got to.
