Unhappy RPM dropping to zero

I have a 1990 Mustang 2.3L 4 banger. Having a bit of a problem with it. When I start it, it will run fine for a little while, then the RPMs just drop to 0 and most times the car will just stall. If I have my foot on the gas and the RPM at about 2000 or higher, the car wont always stall but the RPM still drops, then goes back up. Quite constantly. I have had a mechanic check it out, but he wasnt sure what was wrong and didnt have a way to test the electrical so, of course, thought it was probably the problem. Thought i'd see if anyone else had any ideas. Doesnt appear to have a problem with distibutor or spark plugs. timing seems fine. Any questions i'd be happy to try and answer, but I just cant figure out the problem. Never seen it before.

Thanks for any suggestions.

I'll have to check it out. Appears to be burning oil too. I may have to go get a electrical checked, see whats going on there. Am getting the check engine light a lot right now. Not just when its stalls, which is expected

check your pcv valve, i have seen a bad pcv valve cause oil consumption granted it was not on a mustang, but never hurts to check.
