Default ministocks fuel injection

I have been racing a mustang ministock for 2 years now on a 1/2 mile low bank asphault track. I have a 2.3L D-port head, shaved .140" to get a 10.8:1 compression. I use a crane .510 lift solid lifter cam with an adjustable cam sprocket and a 350 Holley. On an average night I usually run about 7400 RPM.
The mustang used to be the dominate car at the track but now the Saturns and Neons are passing the mustangs down the straights. I am very interested in switching to fuel injection, but no other forum I have been to can seem to figure it out. A guy I race with tried it with no succes YET. Our rules don't allow aftermarket computers, but we can use and modify anything Ford put on a 4 cyl that is at least 10 years old technology. This also includes a possible switching between Escort, Rangers, Contours, Minivans, and some Taurus'

What years did mechanical fuel injection come into play? I talked to a guy at SVO and he had no idea that the oval track guys were spinning the 2.3 that much. As far as he knw, the best fuel injection for a modified head would be the 91-93 duel plug ranger head. It is still limited to 6600 RPM. How about the PACK spanking the Viks.

I dont think they ever had a stock mechanical injection . I just was wondering if you could make one . like an enderly type injection or something . That sucks that you cant use an aftermarket injection , because that would be the easy way . To be honest with you , we dont have many knowledgeable people on here for the 2.3 .

Here is a cool link . for mechanical injection .
http://www.indyheads.com/catalog/page28.pdf#search='4%20cylinder%20mechanical%20fue l%20injection'

just take the space out between the j and the e in injection . I dont know why the link wont work .

Also , BMW used a mechanical injection on some of their 4 cylinder cars .

I wouldnt say we spanked the vikings , but we did win

Question

All the Merkur Xr4Ti cars were turbo, but I wondering if the ECU might me adapted to a non-turbo application.

But does German import deny eligibility even though it was pure Ford?

Our rules state "Engines may not cross MFG lines" it's a pretty open for discusstion rule. The rules also state that the engine must be a single cam, but more than two valves per cylinder allowed. Volvo made a 4 valve per cylinder head that does bolt on to the Ford 2.3, but needs a little work on the exhaust. Since Ford bought out Volvo this should'nt be a problem. Maybe the Merkur will work as well. No turbos allowed, but the ECM may work.

I appreciate all the help and direction I can get. I probably won't have the resources for the 2005 season. I'd like to build an test car to trial it for 2006.

ok , so you've piqued my interest here . What year and engine volvo cylinder head will work ? What needs to be done to make it work ? What timing chain would you use for it to work ? Do you have a link to a site that has a write up about it ? Sorry for all the questions , but now I've been thinking about it

Found a link . Interesting , but it looks like it would be more of a pain in the ass than what it's worth . Check it out .

I looked at the website and yes it is a pain in the ass, but when we are forced with rules as ours, alternate methods must be addressed. I probably won't use the Volvo head. I looked for Merkur websites but have not had any useful ones to my application. As far as the Ford 2.3L engine, it is an amazing what I have seen people do to these naturally aspirated workhorses. People come up with some pretty cool things.
Although the following would not be allowed in our rules, he put a slighly modified Toyata 2R crank in it, which stroked it to 2650 cc. Then shaved the head .180" to get 13:1 compression ratio. Using a .510 lift Crane cam and a stock 5200 carberator, he got 245 hp @ 8500 RPM.
I've heard a stock 2.0L pinto motor can run 7200 RPM and a slightly modified can one can run 10500 RPM all day long.

Visit www.4m.net in the minstock forum. This is the site I usually visit for oval track racing tech. Let me know what you think of it.
