Default any and all hlep would be nice :)

Ok, i have a question and mabey some one knows whats wrong

i have a 93 Mustang LX with 141737 miles
drove it most of today, stopped and filled up the tank, and had a bit of over flow
went to start the car, and all i got was a click

pushed it off to the side, and called my father, we went and got a new silinod and replaced it
however car still only gave me a click, so i tapped the starter, it started but wouldnt remain running, and i couldnt hear any thing from the fuel pump, is there a fuel pump reset swtich i need to hit?

Thanks in advance

heres an update, we replaced the starter, got the engine to turn over and catch
but it dies within a couple of seconds, you can even rev it somewhat before it dies

i dont know if its the fuel pump, but a guy i taked to at a garage close to me said that if the fuel pump was bad the engine wouldnt even start

Thanks in advance

You should be able to hear the fuel pump. Take the gas cap off and put you ear next to it. Do this in a fairly quite place. Then have someone turn the key to the on possition but not the start position. If you hear a whirring sound the pump is working. If the pump is working check the fuel filter. This may explain the starting for a while then stopping. If you don't hear the pump, many things could be wrong. There is a fuel pump cutoff switch. In my 88 GT its in the rear. Open the hatch and look for a round rubber gasket near the tail lights. Pop it off and stick your finger in it to feel for the reset button. If that seems fine the next step would be to go to your local autoparts place and pick up a Haynes manual. It should be about $15 and can save you alot of money by doing the repairs yourself. Hope this helps

Thanks, we are going to replace the fuel filter, and go from there, i went looking for the fuel pump reset swtch, but couldnt find it, i was told by guy at the ford dealership that it was on the passanger side by the front dash, but havent found it as of yet

i was also told that sometimes if the fuel filter is blocked you wont hear the fuel pump presureise the lines because they are already under pressure, dnot know if its true but we will see, thanks for the reply

I believe you had two problems in a very short time span, The click/no crank was repaired but the cranking and not firing is another issue,
Two things, check for spark at the spark plug, and check for fuel pressure. Use a guage. If unfamiliar on how to do this or you do not have the proper tools, take it to a reputable shop.
That is your best bet. IMO.

Default a few suggestions

Makoda, Mustagndon is correct, check the inertia switch which will be located in the hatchback on the drivers side. I had the same problem with my '86 GT, alternator and fuelpump went at same time. You should be able to hear the fuel pump kick on when you turn the key to the on position, if you don't hear the pump I recomend also checking the fuseable link for the pump. Beyond that, siphon the gas and get ready to drop the tank. Hope the ideas make sense, good luck.

well, we replaced the starter again.. got the car to run and stay running, however the starter wouldnt disengage, killed the starter again, so i have to go swap it out, again

i am at a loss as to what is making this happen, we did replace the silinod on the fender well, but i hooked it up the same way it came off, could that silinod be bad?

i am sorry to keep asking for your help with this problem, but i am glad for the help i have received

It might be the ignition switch on the steering column sticking or not making proper contact. You will need a special tool to get the switch out. It looks like a torx bit with a hole in the middle of it. Your parts guy should know. The switch if fairly cheap.
