Default 2.3L to 5.0L suspension swap

Alright , first off , I've never modded any car before in my life !! but you gotta start somewhere right ?? So here we go , I wanna have better suspension on the 4-banger , and since it's the same body as the 5.0 , I was just thinking , it's gotta be do-able , why the hell wouldn't it ?!!!

So basically , to make sure , I gotta ask the pros , cuz you've probly all had more experience than me . And if it is , what do I gotta change ??? Gonna try and turn this into the only modded 4-banger in the region hehe later !!

Well depending on the year its all the same. The 2.3 and 5.0 control arms are the same. The springs are differnt, the brakes on 87-93 are differnt. You would be better off getting aftermarket sway bars and springs and shocks.

I have a 92 , and I was aiming my attention at the aftermarket , I was just wondering if the aftermarket 5.0 suspension accessories would fit my 2.3 . But since you say its all the same , I guess they'll do . thanks carguy65

No prob the K member, Control arms and everything are the same. Just beef up the sway bars and springs and your set. I got all my stuff from work for my 84 Turbo GT (for sale) its a 2.3 Turbo. I went with KYB shocks, Sprint Lowering Springs, Camber/Castor Kit, and I used a stock 5.0 sway bar I had laying around. The car handels great! I also stuck some 16" X 7" T-Bird Turbo Coupe wheels on it.

Remember that the 5.0 and 2.3 use different front spindles and rotors. You'll need to upgrade to the 5.0L spindle and 11" rotor. the 4 cyl. front brakes are crap.

Yes they are crap !! but for now , I just need them to make me stop :>

Anyway , I'm glad to hear I can swap the suspension easily enough , now it's time to look into engine mods !! I have a feelin I'm gonna have a hard time ....

you may want to visit turboford.org look for a guy named bob ford lee
he's always in the for sale section, he does alot of port work with the 2.3L stuff, intakes, and that, you would benefit by using the ranger camshaft, a ported intake manifold, bigger injectors, some of these guys are making tremendous horse power out of a 2.3L turbo, and then you could always turbo charge it! for the parts to do that, see me. i have pretty much everything you would need to do this. also stop by the 2.3L mustang site, it shows a parts list and step by step instructions on swapping in a turbocharged, intercooled 2.3L (if you are serious about a 2.3L buildup) just my $.02

if you do the suspension swap the front end will sit up high because if you put the 5.0 suspension on the front the 4 banger will not be as heavy as the 5.0 so it will sit up higher. So what you should do is put svo suspension on the front and gt suspension on the back of the car. And that will work and it will handle good.
