So on the driver side rear it sounded like the wheel bearing was goin bad so I replaced it but i'm still hearing the noise of a bad wheel bearing. The noise is very clear tobtell its the driver side. And when i'm accelerating from a stop at a normal speed it sometimes feels like the back of the car is bouncing up and down a little.
What I noticed when I did the wheel bearing was that the previous owner slammed a curb. Because I loosened the bolt to slide the cross shaft out so I could get the c clips. The whole cross shaft came out completely and is very clearly bent and you can see where the axle slammed into it when he hit a curb.
Could that be the noise? And if so, is the rear going to be giving out soon due to this damage?

Alright say it is the axle bearing and I replace them and problem solved. What's the verdict on the bent cross shaft? Is that something that is going to be giving me serious problems?
why shouldn't it come right out? i slide them out every time i remove axles to check for wear.if it were bent it wouldnt have slid out of the carrier, it would have got stuck inside the spiders i think the axle would have bent before that shaft.

You have a BENT CROSS SHAFT!!! Never in my life have i seen that. Take a photo. If it is bent how did you remove it from the carrier????????????????
Peace Tom
Yeah ++1 on that. If you tweaked that thing the slightest bit I would think that whatever that car hit the whole rear HAD to have been ripped completely from the car. With that being said I can't understand how that pin would just slide out, pretty tight tolerances there. I too would like to see that!
Turboeeyore on my other rear it slides out only some and then the ring gear stops it from coming out all the way. From what I understand they aren't suppose to be able to come out all the way
How can you remove the C Clip otherwise. That pin is if memory srves me on a 28 spline is 7/8 of an inch thick. And when it is installed in the carrier only a small portion is not supported. I have my droughts about it being bent. Once again how would you be able to remove a bent pin. Not buying it but i will give you the benefit of the DOUBT. Please provide a photo!!
Peace Tom

the shaft is only suppose to slide out enough so you can pull the c clips. Thats why theres a groove machined on the cross shaft so it slides out to a point and then hits the ring gear. If the ring gear was taken out then the shaft would slide all the way out.
But when I swap in my 8.8 rear i'll definitely show you guys a picture of the shaft
