Default Let's talk Exhaust upgrades!

Since the muffler and tail pipe on the 88 2.3L needs replacing, I am looking at upgrading the complete exhaust.

I have read all of the posts available and want to get some final techinical advice and possible part availability sources.

1. Of course I would start with the Ranger header (with egr and O2 sensor bung).

2. Will the CAT need to be eliminated or replaced? If so what size pipe would be needed to go to the muffler? Would this be a stock item or would it need to be fabricated?

3. For the muffler. I was interested in the single in dual out muffler that has been mentioned. What size inlet and outlets would be needed to ensure enough back pressure.

4. Tail pipes. Would the two pipes that are needed be stock or would they need to be fabricated?

5. Is there any manufacturer that stocks and sells the muffler and pre-bent pipes for a 88 Mustang 2.3L? I would assume that the pipes would be different from a normal two muffler dual exhaust.

If anyone has performed this modification; pictures, part numbers, etc. would be appreciated.

Thanks. Nick

i used a flowmaster 40 series with the stock 2 1/4 diamiter in and duel 2 1/4 out. removing the cats will give you more power but its illeagal in most states. i had my tail pipe made at a muffler shop. 2 1/4 also. as for the ranger header it bolts right on you just have to find a place for the o2 sensor and fab an egr pipe. as for pictures i have some.

Default Will 93 Ranger header work on 88 Mustang?

Will the header from a 1993 4-cyl Ranger work on a 1988 Mustang 4-cyl? If not what are the range of years?

Thanks.
Nick
