You can't just slap a turbo on a normally aspirated motor, it'll disinegrate before your very eyes! You need to use a 2.3 Turbo shortblock. Forged pistons are the only thing that'll hold up to the pressures. The smaller IHI turbos came stock on '87-'88 Thunderbird turbo coupes. The bigger T3 turbos came stock on '83-'86 Thunderbird turbo coupes, '8?-'89 Merkur XR4ti's and '84-86 Mustang SVO's. Check the classifieds on
