Power Locks/Power Window Motor/Outer door handle problems Okay I have been reading these threads for the last few weeks without being registered and you guys are really helpful with everything. I have a few problems of my own with my 93 convertible (PL/PW). For some reason all the trouble is happening on the driver's side.
1) When I first got the car, the power locks were broken. Neither the driver's side switch nor the passenger's side switch unlocks or locks the doors. I used a test light on the master switch (driver's side) and it worked. I don't know if it is the door lock actuator or what. Any advice on what the problem is and how to fix it would be very appreciated.
2) A month or so ago, I went to get into my car, pulled up on the outer door handle, and the thing snapped. The springs all fell out and the piece of the doorhandle that goes inside the door and connects to the locking mechanism snapped off as well. I don't know what part I need to buy because I don't know if just buying the outer door handle will include all the springs and stuff needed and whether it will even connect to the locking mechanism. Any help on this situation would be helpful as well.
3) Two days ago, I was driving around, and got out of my car. Since the outer door handle is broken and I have to get in the car through thepassenger side once the door closes, I opened my driver's side window so I could open the door from the inside. Well when I got back, I went to shut the window and nothing. No motor sound, no stuggle of the motor and then dead...just complete nothing. So now the window is stuck in the down position. I used a test light on this also and there is still power to the master switch. All three other windows work fine, so I am assuming it's the motor. I Took the door panel off and peeled up the weathering plastic and tried to see if there was a way to pull up the window but i couldn't get to the motor or gears. There is a riveted plate above the speaker right over the motor and I didn't feel like screwing around with it. If anyone could tell me what is wrong with the window (whether it's the motor or something else) and if there is a way to unlatch it from the gears in order to pull it up for the time being, that would be awesome.
I am almost ready to just bring it to the mechanic that fixed my timing belt and water pump and tell him everything that's wrong with it...they are fairly reasonable with pricing this, but I am very capable of doing this myself, it's just figuring out what is wrong that is stumping me...I don't want to fix the wrong thing and still have it broken.
Once again, any help is greatly appreciated. |
