Default t-5 from 2.3 92 to 89 gt

Is it possible to swap a t-5 tranny from a 92 lx 2.3l into an 89 gt? The 89 has an auto tranny now but did have a t-5. The engine in the gt is not going to be modified. If the swap is possible are there any other parts needed I wouldn't already have? Thanks for the help.

All Fox bodied 4 cyl T-5's are the same. Should bolt right up, no problem.

Default 2.3 t-5 and 5.0 t-5 differences

Thanks for the reply. I was wondering though if a 2.3 t-5 can go in an 89 gt with a 5.0 that now has an auto but used to have a t-5. Are there major differences between the 2.3 t-5 and the 5.0 t-5?

Thanks again for any help.

The 5.0 T5 has a larger diameter input shaft than the 2.3 T5. However, you can get a special pilot bearing that'll allow you to use the 2.3 T5. Don't know how long the 4 cyl tranny will last behind a 5.0, though! Check NAPA auto parts for the pilot bearing.

That'll definatley work, but... You do need the right pilot bearing, supposedly
one from an '80's 4x4 ranger will work. Wouldn't count on that though. And
yeah, I don't think It would hold up for too many years behind a 5.0. One
bonus would be that extra low 1st gear. I do know a guy who's got a 4cyl T-5
behind a mildly built '84 5.0 engine and his hasn't blown up yet, so who Knows?
The only major difference aside from the lower 1st gear and the pilot shaft size
is that they have different syncros, weaker ones in the 4 cyl version.
