Default will 8 plug ranger cam fit 4 plug mustang head

Just like the title says, I am wondering if the cam lifters and raocker from an 8 sparkplug ranger head fit in a 4 spark plug mustang head?
I have read all over the place about puting the ranger cam in the mustang but I havent herd anything about the interchangeability from 8 plug to 4. All the heads I have found in the local wreckingyards are the 8 plug type.
Also while I have your atention, would there be any benifit in puting the ranger intake and throtle body on my head? will it even fit? If it dose fit what would my computer think about it?

the mustang I am working on is a 1989 lx 2.3l of course with a 5 speed.
It never sees the street as it is run on a local dirt race track where I must run stock production parts, no aftermarket cams, headers, computers, etc.
The motor is curently stock with the egr system removed and the knock sensor disconected. It has the stock mustang exhaust manifold running into the stock down pipe then into an 18" glasspack mufler with no further exhaust. I usualy run it at around 4500 rpm I would like to get a bit more power out of it, 15 hp mabey? and run it at around 5000-5500 rpm but dont curently have the power to get that fast before the end of the straight.

yes it will fit, also try the header from an 95-? ranger, it is a tube header and is a direct bolt on, tb should be the same

One problem you may have though is the fact that the 88 2.3 is speed-density instead of mass-air like the later model Ranger the cam would be coming from. I had a 2.3 Ranger engine in an '88 Mustang LX. The cam was just different enough to keep the computer from being happy (I eventually disconnected the knock sensor and retarded the timing a little to shut off the check-engine light for good! lol)

How strict are the rules in your class? A few mods (still factory parts) that may help would be to go to a '74-78 Mustang II 2.3 intake and carb (could either use the stock 2.3EGR plate with the EGR passage blocked off or a Mr. Gasket 2bbl. adapter plate in place of the EGR plate) and distributor (if you get a '74, see what the rules say about a Pertronix under-cap ignition module in place of the points that were only used on the 2.3 in '74, or invest in Bluestreak's points and condensor). If you went carbureted like that, you could run whatever camshaft you wanted (within your rules) and have zero tuning problems, not to mention the 2-bbl. carbureted 2.3s had more horsepower than all of the non-turbo fuel injected cars except the 8-plug Distributorless cars.

Try a 98 Ford Ranger rods and pistons. They are 5.4 instead of 5.2.
