TurboFord Recommended Modifications List

That is a link to some recommendations. Look at stage 1.

On an 86 SVO the knock sensor is located on the intake manifold ( if you have the squad intake manifold) on the lower part on the left side if you are standing on the driver's side. I recently disconnect my knock sensors and it seems a little more responsible. Enjoy.

I dont think so i have a fully built motor im running 18 psi and its quite fine, if you feel something like popcorn when your boosting high then your detonating then you should connect it back as the knock sensor will stop the injectors from feeding your car too much gas... but i dont think you will have that problem

I know this thread is old, but I will add this for archive.

If you use an aftermarket boost controller and bypass the BCS here's an issue.

If the ecu senses knock, false or real it will pull timing. If the bcs is bypassed the engine will see 18 psi even at and during the retard event. This will also cause audible knock. I would never recommend disconnecting the knock sensor as it is he engines only way of protecting itself from you and bad fuel.

You can double up on Teflon tape and hand tighten the sensor. Make a pull. If you hear detonation tighten the sensor a little more until it is triggered. You can tune a knock sensors sensitivity.

I thought I hadn't seen this thread. I can inform everyone of this 22 psi. Stock injectors, Lot of porting intake and exhaust, stock computer and vam , then add 1 year will get you pieces out of pistons and cylinder. Engine still ran just noisy. Maurice
