thanks for all the info , i have just recently acquired a 88 tc motor and all the aformentioned pieces, including intercooler. question will the intercooler fit on top with a stock mustang hood or do i need a cowl induction hood for clearance. i would like to move the cooler inside the front somehow but it dosent appear there is room. It should fit fine. It all depends on the compressor discharge hose going to the charge air cooler. That will determine the height.
The TC charge air cooler will sit lower and tilts forward just a bit anyway (comparing to an SVO).

How long does a complete swap usually take?

Depends on the time devoted and if you are working with help.

1979 to 1981 carb turbo 2.3L used flat top forged pistons which for many years were used as performance pistons in rebuilds as they were cheap and easy to find.

The 1984 to 1988 EFI 2.3L turbos used forged dished pistons to lower compression and to improve volumetric cylinder filling.

Not sure if all 2.3L EFI turbo engines had the turbo head or not but my 87 Turbo Coupe head has combustion chambers very similar to the old style closed chamber heads found on 289/302's.

The stock head is more similar to a open chamber design.

The turbo head combustion chamber design helps improve air fuel mixing and is less vulnerable to detonation.

The rods and cranks are the same between the normally aspirated motors and the turbo motors.

You have to understand that the 2.3L was a rugged beast that also saw lots of service in Forklifts in North America and Europe and in small commercial trucks in Europe because it was so durable.

Well I won't be doing anything really, but I'll probably have to wait for my Dad, so I'd say probably four hours for five days a week, then up to ten the other two. My Dad knows a ton about engines and engine swaps, and just cars in general so he will be my help.

Amazing that the stock rods could take such a beating, that is what made me think that it was forged or thicker than the regular nataurally asperated 2.3.....I know that my motor is very worn and the compression is considerably low, but I have been getting away with 20 lbs of boost on a cool day with high octaine fuel (94 octaine pump gas + added octaine boost). And never had an any issues. the only thing I blew was the head gasket which was my fault because the ign timming was way too advanced (did not realise that it was detonating till it was too late). that was two years ago, knock wood the engine has been as strong as an OX ever since!

What a joke! That link has NOTHING to do with turbocharging! It's an electric fan that blows air into your intake tube. Utterly useless! But hey, there's always some fool out there that'll dump $400 on the latest gizmo because it's on a fancy website, looks good and is accompanied by outrageous claims. It's called marketing! You can achieve the same, if not better results by spending $40 on a quality K&N cone filter and some PVC pipe and fab your own cold air intake system! http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...os/leghump.gif

Who's to say if i works on not. It's just an idea, for people that can't afford swapping an engine.

Cool

I didn't mean to be harsh. It's a ripoff, man! Take that same $400 and you can buy a decent donor car. Transfer everything over and you've got a true turboford!
