This is removing the upper half of the throttle shaft and blending in the ridge before the butterfly to increase and smoothen airflow.

The actual air intake silencer is located under the mass air box. It's a sorta s shaped tube, which serves no purpose to the car. It's supposed to add some more noise to the engine, but not much that I notced. To take it out, you must open the mass air box as if you were going to change the air filter, pull out the filter, and there's a small hole, covered by another piece of plastic, in the bottom right hand side. You unscrew it from there, and from the body of the car, and easily comes off. If you are still having problems doing this, email me, and I'll send you a link, where they specifically explain to you how to do this.

I'm not totally sure but I think if I pull my air intake off so I can see my throttle body, compared to the pics of the one you posted, I might be able to understand it a little better.

this sounds interesting, I have a 91 lx also I may have to check this out, I have a K&N air filter in my air box and that helped a little as opposed to the paper filter, but is it possible to get a cone shaped filter from a 5.0 and attach to the TB?

Henner,
What sounds interesting, the half shafting if the TB or the silencer removal?

I have a complete CAI from some import on my brother's car. It was cheeper than just a K&N cone filter and it came with one. Do you want to see some pics?

I will post a few for you. Here are some half shafted tb shots.

http://www.mustangmods.com/publish/Flex/Stock.jpg

Here is the stock TB.

http://www.mustangmods.com/publish/Flex/Ridge.jpg

Here is a stcoker open. Notice how much of the bore is blocked by the shaft and screws.

http://www.mustangmods.com/publish/Flex/3.8TBpol4.jpg

Here is a finished polished TB.

http://www.mustangmods.com/publish/Flex/3.8TBpol3.jpg

The same TB open showing the blended ridge and polished bore.

http://www.mustangmods.com/publish/Flex/3.8TBpol2.jpg

Open showing the reduced shaft and small button head screws trimmed flush with the shaft. You can see how much more of the bore is open to flow.

Henner,

Half shafting is cutting the upper half of the throttle shaft off above the butterfly. If the TB is modded properly, the ridge in the TB bore is also blended in smooth and the butterfly is knife edged in front.

The TB shaft must only be cut where it comes into the bore and not right through. The bore must not be enlarged and the ridge blend must stop before the point where the butterfly touches the bore in the closed position. When knife edging the butterfly, it cannot be completely filed to a sharp point but a small 1mm lege should be left behind.

This job usually requires the TPS be removed and so it must be scribed in several places with a sharp awl across the TPS and TB so that it can be properly

Look at these threads for pics etc. Look for my posts in the threads.
