Today I was gonna try to remove the air silencer piece and i noticed after setting it down that oil was pouring out. Has anyone else noticed this? , I ended up cleaning up all parts involved and reinstalling them. I'll go to the caryard tomorrow and get another one to experiment with. Also, has anyone confirmed the use of a Ford Probe CAI, if so what year?

Next thing to do is half shaft the TB and really get some air going in there.
Please explain.....

I sure do miss it.

The 93's do have it! I have taken mine out and is easy to find too! just look inside the 6" round plastic tube that is between the MAF and the throttle body it has two tubes in itself. One is in one way and the other is the exact opposite at the other end. I put it in a vise and took the butt of a hammer and hammered one end out then turned over and did the same with the other end. "Piece 'o cake"

what's the point? you gotta take the hole thing out anyways
that big ol' tube messes up your airflow
get one that's size is universal, that way the air doesn't expand or contract inside the tube, creating some sort of backdraft
hey guys and galls im new to this forum ive read alot of post the last few days before i joined the info im getting form all of you is really cool and informative just bought my first mustang its like getting my license all over again most exciting. the upgrades to these things are great im glad you guy share your knowlage this silencer removal if you replace the air intake with a cold air intake knok senser disconected replace the exaust man with a header(cherry bomb) what else is there to do thank for tolarating this im sur its ben asked before 2.3 90 lx
We are talking about N/A fuel injected cars. I don't believe that a turbo motor could operate properly with a silencer. Would restrict too much airflow.
i dnt think i got a silencer. But i got a muffler on my intake. Big black thing that keeps it quiet. i think its stupid. i looked and theres nothing to cut out or remove from it. does that effect the air flow?

Yeah that is the silencer. All it does it quiet down the air flow coming in, it impedes airflow. I removed mine and replaced it with 3 inch diameter PVC pipe and I noticed an improvement in acceleration when I would be merging onto the interstate or passing someone.

Spent the morning coffee reading this thread and just had to try it. Just got back from a test drive after removing the silencer and the "s" box and there is a noticable improvement in throttle response. The jury is still out on the "half shafting". Will require more study.
The air silencer is located between the air filter box and the throttle body. Big ugly thing. I used a hammer handle to knock one half out but had to do some digging to get the other half out. I also removed the little "s" thingy in front of the air filter box. VAROOOOOM! Just a little increase in noise........reminds me of my teenage days when we would take the air breathers off the cars because we liked the sound.
Aint hard to do and the thirty mins it takes is well worth the improvement in throttle response. Tomorrow we will check to see if there is any mileage improvements.
