Instead of beating it with a hammer and a scredriver take a drum sander for smoothing out door nob holes and a drill to cut and smooth out the rough spots for smoother flow. I did and it looks great!
hey i just did mine today and it took me about five to ten minutes to take it out of my 93 if you have a 91-93 just take a peice of metal pipe that doesnt quite fit and stand the pole up and then smash the pole on your silencer it worked for me it feels like it gave me like 4 to 5 more hp
Put it back on. You'll notice a difference. Not a big one, but still a difference. Also, do you have a K&N filter? That might help (a little).

It took me less the 2 minutes to do it.
Put one end in a table vice if you have one , then grab the other end where you can see where it sticks out, and put another hand held vice grip on that and just pull it, it came out so easy i almost flew backwards. and same with the other side.
Also i just half shafted my TB. My dad has a bit that you put on the power drill thats he used to use when he would Hone his cylinders on his 59 panhead. I just used that and Voila!! That thing is gleamin like chrome almost. Ill take a pic of it and post it up.
Did my description help you track it down? Did you mod it with the ABS pipe as I had or did you just rip out the silencer? Another mod you will feel is disconnect the knock sensor. Just make sure the engine is not detonating first.
Holy crap, I removed the intake silencer but not without a fight. One of the bolts I had to unscrew was very inconveniently located and I couldn't fit a screwdriver in there properly so it took a few minutes to do that. Then used the screwdriver to get part of the silencer out easily, but then I couldn't get the rest of it out with it. So I grabbed a hammer and some pliers. I used the pliers to bend and break the inside, then the pieces I couldn't reach I used the butt of the hammer to bust off. It took a good 45 minutes lol. I haven't driven my car yet to see the result, I will around six.
I just did mine tonight XD well... this morning lol...... like three in the morning XD. good news is I notice a small difference where previously I could do nothing now I can check off a one wheeled smokeless burnout. The darn thing is after I found that out I took it for a test drive (now three thirty in the morning and still dark) some ignorant being left a knife in the road and guess who didn't see it..... I had to pull off into an ally and replace my back passengers side wheel lol XD
Hey what are you gonna do with the 2 vacuum hoses that are coming out from the top of your airbox? and what happends to your Air Charge Temperature sensor(ACT)?
Hey I removed my whole intake tube and put in a Cold air intake but with out the cone, so its just the metalic tube. I think i lost sound from my flowmaster muffler though, it doesnt sound as loud anymore, although i did gain some horsepower from doing this.
