Default 89 Mustang Clutch is worn (HELP)

Hi everyone. I was in the shop today and they said my clutch is worn. I got 89 stang 2.3l. It still drives and change gears easily but i was wondering is it gonna take me for a month till i get the $ for a new one. They told me it cost $670 canadian. It is freakin expensive, almost same as the price of my whole car. Is there any way to buy the Clutch kit from internet and tell them to install it (is it gonna be cheaper). I know it is impossible to do it myself. So any suggestion to get it as cheap as possible. By the way there are a lot on ebay but they said for 4.6l/5.0l Mustang. Is it really different or the engine size doesn't matter? Thanks a lot for any help.

Really!!!!!! Huuhhh!!! My friend told me unless you dont go to a shop that has those high jacks, you cant change it. I love these foxbody models, very easy to work on, engine has lots of space that even i who dont know anything a lot about mechanic changed the cooling fan and do the oil by myself. I found a Clutch kit on the net around $200, so i'll just buy them and ........ Actually cant do it myself (your friend was probably professional). So i'll give it my friend's mechanic. Heres my big question, IS THE CLUTCH FOR A FOXBODY 4.6L/5.0L MUSTANG GONNA FIT TO MY 2.3L OR NOT? THANKS

You can easily change it yourself. Use regular jack stands and set them on cinder blocks. That'll raise it another 6". More than enough room to remove the tranny.

Around here, shops won't touch parts a customer purchased let alone install them. Two reasons why are liability and profit. First, if they install parts you bought off of Ebay, or some bargain-basement.com site and something happens, where's the first place you'll be going when the part fails or damages something else? The shops would rather get the parts from known distributors that they have some sort of guarantee with. Secondly, they stand to lose some bucks installing your parts. The parts they get from local suppliers usually get a nice mark-up added to the cost before it hits your final bill.

I'd imagine it's the same in B.C. or anywhere else in Canada.

Try shopping around. You may find a garage that's cheaper than the one you quoted earlier. Just because it's $670.00 at one place doesn't necessarily mean it's the going rate all over town.

Better yet, just drive across the border into WA. $670.00 canadian is like $20 US right? That's a steal of a deal j/k

Wow, now i should get into business. its true, i havn't gone enywhere else to get other prices. Actually i wanted to sell my car, but now that i think of it, i see that if i somehow can fix the clutch, it is a good reliable car. (There is a reason why Mustang is a True American car) not like these new cars that uses japanese engines or parts. I'll stick to my stang and will cross the border to see whats going on on the other side of the world. Maybe i should work in U.S and bring the $$ to Canada. So in a month i can buy Dodge Viper.
