I just took the muffler out of my 1988 Lx Mustang ran a 2 foot piece of straight pipe to about my rear axle and left the cats but have developed a clean sound i am planning on removing my cats.

I've heard guys on hear say they like the straight pipe sound. I haven't heard on before, but I had another 89 2.3L that the muffler needed replacement (leaks in the pipe ahead of it and a hole in it). LOUD AND ANOYING! Not a performance sound at all. It set of car alarms and I cringed driving though residential areas at night. Anyways that my have just been the fact that the leak was so far up the pipe.
But, whatever floats your boat.

There are quit a few mufflers out there that should give you a littler different tone if you end up not liking what you hear.

i have A.T.R. duals on mine and they have a real deep tone to them... almost as deep as a 5.0

I had a 95 3.8l before an accident. Anyways, it had mac headers that ran to a y pipe to a single flo pro twister muffler and back to duals. Sounded absolutly awesome for a v6. Not too loud, but kind of like a cross between a flowmaster and a cougar scream(sort of... only way I could describe it. ) when I'd step on it. I bought one for my 2.3l but it will probably be a year before it's running and I can hear it so it may not sound any good on my 2.3l. it'll have a header from racer walsh, 2.25" exhaust to the muffler to dual tips.

Enough about my car, if you have any way of posting the sound you get out of your exhaust I'm sure everybody will love to hear.

i did the same to mine sounded good but put on a glass pack, to many cops

so all u did was took off ur muffler? and ran a straight pipe eh....with cats? I have a glasspack on right now on my 91 ...I'm thinkin of scrappin it to see how it sounds.

I started mine up when i have just the cat on, when i was changing my muffler out, it was way to loud. I wouldn't have gotten 4 blocks with out getting pulled over!

5.0L only sound good between 2&3 thousand rpm but
I took all my cats out straight pipe with glasspack custom exhaust
lol except the asshole put the glasspack in the wrong place so it sounds like **** so I wanted to get the exhaust u have cause u said it has a deep tone I like that so if u could hook me up with that info dude thanks is that a 2.3L ur running with duals? y split pipe?
my idea was to put a peice of metal splitting the airflow perfectly but that would take some work anyways have a goodone!
