1987 Mustang 2.3 liter about to explode! please help

I recently bought an 87' Mustang 2.3 liter, 4 cylinder. It worked fine for a while but then the RPM's started jumping. It also dies constantly at red lights and such. I took it to a mechanic and they spent all day looking at it and they couldn't find anything. If anyone can help it would be greatly appreciated.

Fuel pump maybe; but first throw in a fuel filter then check out the fuel pressure.

I had the same issue. I found my egr was dead and i had a vaccum leak. check those out. that should b ur issue.

Could be a vacuum leak, clogged IAC or out of adjustment TPS. Check all vacuum hoses. Pull the IAC and clean it out good with some BrakeKleen. Adjust your TPS. A good tune-up would probably work wonders also.

does an 87 have a catalytic converter?

as far as i know any car newer than like 1970 has a cat in it.
