We have a Areostar in our shop now. Dont know the gears but its got a 8.8 rearend with the trac-loc LSD. 4.0 v6 man swap that for the v6 from a mustang and some sub frame connectors you got one mean van.
Ford thinks bringing back some names we grew up with will cause more sales. You can call the 500 and freestyle Taurus and taurus x but there still 500 and freestyle. I think there bringing back somim else I cant remember

Problem is that they are bringing back mostly names and the new models rarely have much in common with the originals. Calling a Taurus a 500 does not make it more exciting.
The 500 barely sells, the 300 sells like crazy. Drive both of them and you will understand. They are within shouting distance of the same price point, but the 300 is MUCH more exciting.

all I did was send them a question asking how to improve the hp on the dp motor.... knowing they've got the info as to how to do it!!
one name I am glad they got rid of was the probe though!!!! that name make me pucker up all the time!!!! why not go ahead and call it the spenctor mobile.....

Too bad i am a die hard Ford guy when it comes to racing.
I work at GM, as a smallblock engineer. We somewhat listen to customers and trends, which is why GM is still doing pretty well sales wise (Toyota is killing us though).
I agree about the turbo setup on cars, it's efficient (hard to test though, we usually have many problems with turbo engines due to the test cell enviroment)
To give you a little story, i fabbed up a turbo setup for a LS2 corvette engine one night while working... all the other guys loved it, but i was being serious

My mom had a strawberry red 1989 Ford Aerostar van that we put over 250,000 miles on it.
3.0L V6, A4LD, 8.8" rear... except for the tranny a very tough package.
I can count on one hand the things replaced in that time: 1. Water pump, 2. Fuel pump, 3. Transmission, 4. A/C compressor, 5. Alternator. Transmission was the first to go
All of that (except the transmission, which made it to 89,000) was done WELL after 120,000 miles... The whole reason we traded it off was because the freeze plugs were leaking from corrosion (Gee, it was 13 years old and had 250,000 miles, can't imagine why? lol) and it would've taken more money/effort than it was worth to replace them.
Working as a tech and later a parts counterman, I was seeing major parts being swapped out on Windstars and Freestars with low mileage that weren't even 5 years old... sad.

any thing other then ford lincoln mercury roylely sucks especialy dodge
Nothin wrong with Dodges, I drive one every day, most reliable vehicle I've ever owned, a workhorse through and through.
Nothin wrong with Chevys either, I've had at least one at any given time since I was 16, still have my first one, and it was my first car. (well, truck, lol)
Nothin wrong with Fords in general either, but when the company producing them has their heads so far up their asses that they're seeing the inside of their own teeth... (of course, the same could be said for GM too, except I think they're only seeing the tonsils at this point... Chrysler has a clue, but with German thinking still prevailing in the upper ranks of the company, their not 100% sure what to do with it.)
None of the domestic brands are really that much better than the other, and that's the problem. They all still act like the three of them are competing head-to-head with one another when there are a dozen other serious competitors on the market now. Ford's Escape, Dodge's Nitro, and whatever the hell Chevy has out in that segment right now, are royally getting their butts kicked by the Suzuki Grand Vitara, Toyota RAV4, and Hyundai Santa Fe. But the quality between the three American SUVs in that segment? Right on par with one another.

Dodge makes ugly cars, but I've noticed a lot of people have bad taste and think they need a big fat cartoon car with 20's. Ford makes really plain, slow cars, and even the new mustang just is uninspiring to me. I like Chevy's cars personally, but with the unveiling of the G8 (an underpowered 4 door monstrosity) I think they're headed down the tubes as well.
For me I think Ford and Toyota are running an even race of plain jane cars that are just as reliable (or unreliable) as each other, Toyota just has a much better reputation. Look at the post in 2005+ Talk with Fuzzy Dice looking for a "beater" everyone suggesting Nissan, toyota, Honda... not GM, Ford or Dodge. That's from people that drive Fords everyday too.
