Default 1993 Mustang 2.3 I Have Fuel, Have Spark, But Not Starting, Suggestions?

like the title says, my 93 2.3 wont start. i have fuel and i have spark. the crank sensor is fairly new, less than a year old. it just cranks over and wont do anything, right before this happened it ran really rough and had really black exhaust, so i turned it off. since then no go. im stumped what can it be?

Default Coil

Sounds like you may be getting SOME spark, but not enough. Could be a bad coil.

Could also be a timing problem - have you checked for codes?

Check all of your harness connections, especially the large one near the back of the engine (yours may have two, 5.0s do, but earlier 2.3s just have one) if that wiggles loose, you'll have spark and fuel pressure, but your injectors won't fire. When it's just loose enough for intermittent contact, the car will run rich and misfire until it comes all the way loose (seen this problem twice, once with a 2.3 once with a 5.0).

flooded plugs, timing belt slipped?,thats why i prefer the good old distributor versus the DIS,but most all new cars if not all run DIS nowadays,..in my opinion all the new cars are disposable junk, aluminum plastic garbage,,hey good luck with your car, post back what you find oh by the way your 2.3 is definatelly not garbage iam a 2.3 lover

Default getting there

ok so heres what i got.
when i unplug the mass air, it starts up, but runs kinda rough. i plugged mass air back in while running, improved a little but still rough. so i let it sit and idle for about 1/2 an hour. went back out and pushed the gas a little, and it just died. would not start again unless i unpluged mass air. so whats going on here? mass air is new. tried to swap with old one with same results so that is out. please someone chime in with somthing.

Just reading your posts. You say you have fuel. What was your fuel pressure reading?

wonder if you can still have spark and a faulty crankshaft sensor,?they do go out or are covered with dirt/misaligned/broken,,only the DIS models like yours have them,,what do you mean as soon as you let off the key it dies,,wrong connection at starter relay? ignition switch bad? they are notorious for those going bad
