Question 87 mustang t-5 swap questions

i need to know if i can put a 95 3.8 t-5 in my 87 mustang behind a 2.3t and what it would require to do so, i picked one up so cheap i couldnt resist and the t-5 swap sounded good.

Don't know for sure, but I doubt it. Never heard of anyone doing that. Probably a different size spline, bolt pattern, etc. Stick with the Fox body T5's from 2.3's.

I recently got a book called "how to rebuild and modify your manual transmission" at borders book store. It has a section dedicated to t-5's. It has a chart that shows that the input shaft is longer that the fox body t-5s. You may be able to use it if you have the right bellhousing and input shaft.

Good luck.

ok heres what i found out, i can put it in my car if i use the right parts. first swap to the 2.3 bell , but in between the trans and bell there has to be at least a .24 spacer, and to make the trans work with the pilot hole i have to buy a bronze bushing sold by motion dynamics. thanks for the input guys i appreciate it.

If the shaft length is the only problem, you might be able to cut it.
I once cut a transmission from a v6 down to fit a 4cyl 84 ranger with
a surface grinder. Put the transmission in forth or fifth gear, have
someone it from the back end so you cut evenly all the way around,
measure the length carefully, and cut to fit the throwout bearing.
Worked out fine for me.

Obviously part of the previous post was wrong. Cut to fit the pilot bearing rather than the throwout bearing.

I installed a t-5 to replace the 4speed in my 79 2.3.
I did not have to change anything.
I pulled the old trans and compared them first(a must)
Ther a alot of variations from year too year.
The only mod was to transmission mount.
It works great.
OBTW
Check the worm gear for the speedo, make sure its the same color.
