Default 1990 LX Modification Questions

I'm getting ready to sell my 2.3l Mustang. Before I do, I have 2 modifications that I'd like to perform.

First, I'd like to remove that big ugly box of an air filter. It's a piece of crap in my opinion. However, I can't simply remove it and put a cold air intake on it, can I? There's the air supply from the header and what I believe to be the Air Flow sensor in it.

I already removed the upper air silencer. The lower air silencer is still there (the duckbill intake).

What can I do? I cannot find a single cold-air kit that accommodates for that header intake and the AFS.

Secondly, I'd like to remove the front bumper cover and fix some crap under there. However, my Chilton manual does not explain how to remove the bumper cover correctly. I tried that, and I feel that there's a risk of snapping the rivets.

The cold air will go from the throttle body into the fender. Look on ebay for them. Also you will need to keep the throttle body which is right in the middle of the tube. The cold air will plug into both sides of the mass air.

Hmm. Middle of what tube? I removed the air silencers and all I see is this:

TB -- Straight Pipe -- Air Filter box -- Intake

I'm concerned about the two wires in the air filter box.

hey, what year is your car? If it's 1989 or earlier you don't have the MAF sensor. So it would go air box to the pipe with the big silencer to the throttle body. I wouldn't worry about rerouting the tubing from the exhaust manifold. I belive it is for cold weater only. there is some kind of sensor/dealy in the air box(there was on my 89 at least) used to know what it does. But many people that do a cold air intake ignore it.

I know that this has been discussed many times, try a search on this forum and you should come up with some answers.

Ok let me see if I can explain this right.

The two lines on the top of the airbox are vacuum lines. Basically the vacuum closes a little door in the airbox when you start the car in cold weather. This allows heat to flow from the big ugly tube that goes from the bottom of the airbox to the headers. The line that connects the top of the air box to the little device(not sure of the technical name) that closes the door at the bottom of the box can just be thrown away. The other line just needs to be blocked off.

Next topic: the air intake temp thingy.

If you use PVC(cheap but effective) just drill a hole somewhere along your new intake and put it in. Done.

Another option would be to just let it hang in the engine bay. I'm not sure if it affects anything differently. If the sensor is dissconnected, the CEL comes on. I played it safe and mounted it in the pipe.

The only problem you might run into is hooking pipe up to the one side of the MAF(the side with four bolts that attaches to the box). These would be people with I think there are adapters for them but I think I remember hearing they were expensive. I just opted for a MAF that was round on both sides. It also looks much higher flowing than the original Mustang MAF. Or maybe I don't know what the hell I'm talking about...

Hope that helps.
