Cool

Pretty lofty goals there, young man! Yes it can be done. No you probably don't want to do it. 500 streetable hp can be achieved by spending alot of money. Not really sure how 'steetable' it'd be either. The bottom end would have to be built to race car specs. An ARCA/Esslinger head would have to be purchased and reworked. Conversion to MAF would be required as would a stand alone management system. The standard T5 tranny wouldn't hold up to the torque, nor would any readily available rearend short of a 9" Detroit Locker! www.esslingeracing.com and www.racerwalsh.com would be places to start if you're determined to embark on that endeavor.

Please don't take offense at this but, as a first time poster, I'm surmising you're probably a 20-something with limited funds. I may be totally wrong here! But, IMHO I would suggest a goal of 300 hp for a street driven vehicle. 300 hp in a fox body will bury you in the seat and blow off just about any 5.0 in the neighborhood. It's easily attained with junkyard parts and some deft dealing for off the shelf pieces. It won't break the bank, will be much more streetable, easier to maintain and will allow you to drive the car more often as opposed to working on the car all the time. Just my $.02.

thanks guys. all info is helpful. i am new to this site but not the mustange scene. have owned many muscle cars including 4 fox bodied mustanges. currantly own a 69 mach 1 r-code . [ a true barn find with 61000 mls no rst origanal owner] was first one there at estate sale . any way i aquired 2 thunderbird tubo coupes for $1000 both are identical, same year, color, options ones 5 speed ones automatic. they suprised me with the perfomance that they had after almost twenty years. both run look and drive good. i have enough parts to put together a 87 - 93 mustange that will handle up to 700 hp. i want to do a project that isnt so common, and after some research a 2.3 turbo sounds good. as with any project, a good well thought out plan and some well spent money ,it can be achieved. here is what i know allready. in order to achieve 500 hp the 2.3 will need seriouse boost. for that to happen the engine has to be bullit-proof. do they make a race block? i dont want to spend 3 grand on a rotating assembly and have it puke out the bottom. how about a forged crank? do they make an aluminum head ar will a cast head with some seriouse porting be sufficant. are there any intakes out there that will move that much air.i have a liquid to air inter cooler that cools the air on the inlet and outlet and inlet of the throttle body, its complex in plumbing but the pay off is excellant. i have actually had frost on the throttle body. [91 coupe votech sc 408ci] how about turbos. this car will also be a test mule for burning hydrogen .i have that part covered. will be more than happy to share that info with you. have one system on sisters ford focus sxt it gets around 50 mpg in town and is a blast to drive. i really want to thank you guys on input so far. this is what hot rodding is all about
