Default 1993 Mustang 2.3l Missing Spark in Coil.

i have a question about the spark that there should be when the car is on just idleling. i've been having problems with the car boggin a lot so i decided to check the spark from the cilinder while the car being on. the car has 8 spark plugs (which i find wierd) i starting checkin them. i noticed that only the left four would give off spark when removing the spark plug wires. i wanted to know if that had something to do with the car acting funny and boggin.

Mainly would want to know if all 8 plugs are suppose to give spark or do just 4 spark at normal rpm and then the other 4 would turn on at a certain time or rpm?

hi sparky, haha , any way my 93 lx 2.3 didnt have spark on 2 cly but ran ok but not full power, all 8 plugs should be firing, mine ended up being the ign mod, expensive, also could be coil but i bet its the mod, why dont you swap coils from one to the other and see if the left side only sparks or just the right, if the same most likely the mod, get one from a wrecking yard, same as 91-93 mustang 2.3 and 88-97 ranger 2.3 and mazda truck b2300, let me know .big G

well I already switched the coils and still nothing. only 4 seem to spark still. at first thought it would be the computer going bad cuz it still really slow, boggy, and must have the engine warm up for a while so it could run "decently" i guess.

can u send me a pic of "the mod" or if u could just describe it to me and see if i could go from there. really need to get the car running. thanx for replying.

on my car 1993 lx its mounted on the intake lower manifold, its grey and has 2 harness connectors to it one black on grey , if factory one says" motorcraft dis" on front of it, small # e8tf-12a297-aa mesures about 2.5" x 6" held on by 3 small bolts but has holes for 4, its behind your p/s and alt bracket, hope this helps, there about $150 after market, at dreale, more, i would try a wrecking yard to get a factory used one. let me knoe what you find out, big G

the dual plug 2.3 as it is called was designed as a gas saver right after the inital spark in each cylinder the second plug is supposed to fire burning any un burnt vapors.

well i went to 2 different junk yards n found nothing. all of them where completly gone. i dont think everybody was out on the look for them, from the looks of it, it looked like the junk yard takes them off just like they do to cats and oil. so if u could help me out n tell me the correct name for that lil' piece i would really appreciate it so i could look for it on ebay or at a shop. thanx.

by modifying the 2.3L mustang to 8 plugs from 4 plugs, horsepower was increased from 88HP to 105HP. Ford claims 23mpg city and 30 mpg highway on the VIN M (8 plug) engine. My well used 91 gets 29mph highway when driven easily at around 55 - 60 mph.

could you explain how to take the coils off...i know there are 4 screws but it it just simply taking those 4 screws out or is there more to it??

go to AutoZone site and look for "ignition control module". they list a Duralast, part # F138, at $139.66 or try Advanced Auto Parts who list several ignition control modules from $137.77 (GP Sorensen #EL 144) to a bBorg Warner for #212.99. i am looking for one and had no luck on ebay.
