Default Help needed with a/c and fan

Hi everyone I'm new to this forum and hope someone can help.
I have an 88 with a 2.3. My problem is lately when I put the A/C on, or heater or defrost, nothing works. I can hear the vacuum doors working but there is no change in idle and the blower fan will not come on. Once I drive for a few minutes or so everything will finally come on and work normally. This happens everytime I turn off the car. Also if I place the controls on vent the blower fan won't come on for a few minutes. Any ideas?

Bad ignition switch.

Mine does the same thing. At first I didn't know what the hell was happening because I didn't have turn signals either. I'd drive a bit and hit a bump or two and it would all come back. I still haven't changed the switch, but if I turn the key back just a little, the blower works and so do my turn signals.

Really? An ingtion switch - makes sense B... Does the vibration pull the key back far enough to make the necessary contacts?

Yup. If you hit the right bump it does.

What I've been doing lately is just turning the key back gently until I feel a little resistance like it's up against a detent.

It surprised me this morning. I didn't realize I had the blower on 3 and turned the key back and got a blast of cold air in the face. I was definitely awake after that.

Just wanted to thank you. Looks like that is the problem. Turned back the key just a bit and everything comes on. Luckily it is still covered by a recall that was never done.

Thanks.
It's always a crapshoot troubleshooting problems over the net. As the old saying goes... "Even a blind squirrel finds an acorn every now and then"

Glad ya got the problem narrowed down WIKD. Tell me more about this recall. Do you know what model years are covered?
