Hey all, Ive been reading some of the things posted here and a lot of people are advising to switch the stock 2.3 for a turbo 2.3...right now I've got myself a 1990 convertible stang 4 cyl automatic, love it to death but i am looking for more power. Is it possible for my car to be upgraded to a turbo 2.3 engine? would it have to be an automatic as well? Any model/year anyone recommend?

thanks guys

Got a set of equal length hedders (performance exhaust manifold) for your motor, never used, if you are intrested !

Im gonna be pretty much building a midget car engine, just need to see if theres a bigger carb than 390 I can buy or if some one else like DeMon makes a carb.
Why is d shaped ports the best? thank you

Default Brass air fittings

Now that is a lot of brass air fittings Wholesale Tools With Free Shipping World Wide From China Distributor there is just about every type
of air fitting that you could want. Wholesale prices too. I guess these could be used as small water pipe fitting also. I
used some of the parts to make my babington wvo burner.

Hey everyone, I have a 93 2.3 8 plug with the A4Ld Auto.. I just replaced the motor with one that only had 40k miles on it, and replaced pretty much everything on it. She purrs very nice, but has no power at all... I gutted the silencer out, and have a K&N air filter in it as I have read on here to do.. But yet my girlfriends 87 escort 1.8 still out runs my Mustang.. What can I do for cheap to improve my performance? Im used to the 5.0's and am frustrated with this engine..

The escort weighs much less and makes about the same HP as your car which weighs more. I reccomend exhaust modifications next for you then tune the ECM. This is from the engine back. Equal length headers of right size for you exhaust valve size (110% of valve size) into a performace converter. The muffler is a matter of what sounds good to you. I have been known to go through 2 or 3 before I found the one that sounded the way I liked it. I have seen several posts about messing the the converters. IN MOST STATES THIS IS ILLEGAL! You CAN get a larger converter that will have higher flow rates and less restriction. For the 2.3L a 2.5 inch in & out should do fine. Drop the pipe size to 2.25 inches somewhere around the muffler area to compensate for cooled exhaust gas to keep flow velocity up. Unless your car is turbo charged it simply will not need a larger pipe. The larger pipe will cause decreased flow and actually HURT your performance.

Once the exhaust work is done get the ECM (engine control module) reprogrammed to best performace ON a dyno.

Changing the rear gear is also an option. Just becareful not to overgear the car. If you plan on going down the highway make sure the engine RPM is around 1500 to 1800 at 70MPH in your highest gear.

Good luck!

I dont didn't read all the the replies but has any one suggested a roller cam swap or hedders I know Racer walsh makes some for the 2.3 but I couldn't tell you what that alone would do because I added them after going with a 2.5 ranger crank

Hey guys. im new to the forum but ive been in the 2.3 game for a long time. i have a built 85 notch 2.3 of course.. im sure its fun to bash each other, and talk about filters and knock sensors. but if you have a local dirt track where they run mini-stock cars your in business... talk to these guys 90% of them run 2.3's the others run that chevy monza junk. but if you have a couple hundred bucks, take that head off, go to your machine shop and shave that bad boy.. at the track here there shaving .172 off them, it may not sound like much to a lot of you guys but its amazing the difference in the sound and power... i had .162 taken off of mine, and a 5 angle valve job.. im using stock valves and a 510 cam. also hit up cheaphp.com these guys have a cheap cam gear.. there is insane power there... go ahead and ditch that old junk carb, get a 2brl. I recently stepped up to a holley 4... but its simple you take that base plate off the intake manifold and get a spacer from your local parts store... now before i went off on this tangent i should have asked specifics, what head do you have, if its a later model you have the roller cam already, if you dont i suggest you find a late model 2.3 and gook one or you can go find the mecca a 2.5 ranger... you can take everything you need to have a little power... the ranger came stock with a decent header. now if your looking to upgrade your ignition in an ideal situation i would recommend the msd 6AL but if your more budget minded the StreetFire. the streetfire has a built in rev limiter... very nice and easy to adjust.. i know everyone plays up msd wires... yes there nice yes they perform... but there near a hundred bucks... the msd may be 8.5mm or in some cases bigger, but these are not NHRA pro-mods... the accell wires will do great, they even come in the signature 'msd red' they are 8mm. great wires, i run them myself. the msd blaster coil is around 45 bones, the accell is around 35 they both out perform stock... its really in the eye of the builder and the budget, but by no means do you need to believe that you have to have a turbo... you also need to think about your transmission and rear end.. but that is another rant for another forum. just have some fun get dirty and run the crap out of that joker...

Hey guys I have a computer question. Can they be custom tuned? I have a head off of my old ranger that I drag raced. It has 1.89 intake and 1.59 exhaust valves, port & polished, milled to 12-1 and has a crane cam and springs. I plan on using the valves, springs and cam in a my car and Id like to keep it EFI. I know its big bucks but I plan on using my X-mas bonus to tune it.

PS I cant remember the cam specs for sure but its .460IN-.480EX and some were around 280-290 duration and 230-240 at .050. I also plan on running 9.5-1 comp ratio, 19lbs injecters, porting the intake and running a HO TB.

Thumbs up

ok i got the tube on the intake emptyed out, i just use the same filter box, just with a stock size k&n filter, i got the ranger header on,i use a 40 flowmaster muffler with a cat-came with the car,i got the gt front and rear sway bars, with energy suspension bushings and link bolts.

now i was a honda guy, still at heart but i also got bit by the mustang bug like my buddy puts it, so now im learning my mustang.

so ive been watching and reading this site for a couple weeks now, doing everything, and learning info, but ive been trying to search about cams, ive seen about upgrading it,but no suggestions on what cam to get.im just looking for like the next step from stock, ive also seen something about ranger cams, but also no exact details.i dont know these engine tolerance, and i drive alot,100 miles a day average,i pretty much drive for a living, will a stock 91 2.3l w/I.H.E,thats been rebuilt, and only has 40,000 miles on it handle a cam upgrade?and if it does handle a cam upgrade, whats the next cam upgrade?link me a cam,or part number.

oh by the way as the engine only has less than 40,000 miles on it, do i still need to change the springs and retainers if i upgrade the cam even if they check out to be still new?

on an end note, the car runs very nice, its as fun as my civic or funner.it handles so nice, no roll when turning, and if it wasnt for the tranny,i think it would give the civic a run as i took off the turbo set up and lfet it alone with a ihe setup.the poor 1.6l has had enough of a beating @ 160,000 mls on it,so i decides to sell the turbo setup, lol thats how i got the mustang.
