Default Sooooo slow...

So I just bought a 91' LX Mustang 4 cyl.
This is the first 4 cylinder car I've ever owned and WILL be the last. The car handles pretty good and all but is obsurdly slow. I mean it's actually painful how slow the damn thing is. The car is just begging for a V8 or at least a Turbo!!!

Just wanted to say my new car is slow. lol

4cyl are not the best car for speed, but add a turbo or twin turbo..then she will have some power. or just put a v8 in her..

Yes I test drove it but I didn't really floor the car. Either way there really were no stretches to open her up on. It's still a fun little car to rip around town in. If I didn't like it I wouldn't have bought it.

Also there are few cars that can really compare to my old Z.

Ford never really put the naturally aspirated 2.3 in the Mustang LX for people to rip new ones in performance cars, you know...

the 2.3 is an economical car... or atleast it was in its time. although they did sell a ton of em, i think 4cyl stangs were a bad idea, being one of the slowest cars on the road, they give the mustang a bad name when it comes to performance... although performance wasnt ford's intent.

Default HIys, New to the 2.3L

Well I have went a month now since my v6 crapped out on me and the first stang for a good price came my way and its a 1990 2.3L and its a standard.
Was jsut wondering what kind of relativly inexpensive things I can do to it to get some more power?
Also what should it have for power stock? HP/Torque.
It runs great I took it for a test drive the otherday. Im not getting it until the 15th tho. My parents are buying it as a graduation present
Buying it from the original owner for $800 it has some rust on the fenders and the front bumper is cracked but the rust just started coming through and I can find a bumper easily enough. It just needs some extra power

Thanks in advance

I think those had 88 HP, give or take.

There are performance parts around - heads, cams, headers, intake, etc - but I would look at swapping in a 2.3T from a turbo coupe, or consider a v8 swap since it wouldnt cost that much more, and you would get a lot more power in the long run.

Cool 2.3L upgrading (is it worth it?)

Is it really worth trying to get power out of a 2.3L? It's like all the focus is on the V8 Mustang's, nothing really for the 4 banger's that I've seen. Whats the big attraction to these little Ford motors?

It depends on what your wanting out of your 2.3L . My brother and I rebuilt a 2.3 out of a '74 Pinto , that ended up being a bad a__ little runner. We were outrunning Honda's , Mazda's, etc..... just about anything in our class. We stuffed it in a 1978 Pinto H/B that had been totally redone, with 1980 Mustang Suspension, sway bars, & drivetrain. We mated it to a T-5 Mustang tranny.
So like I said , it 's all in what ya want out of it .
