Default 1993 Mustang LX Parking Brake Probloms. Maby you can help.

Hello All:
This is my first post here, and I was hoping you could help. I recently received a 1993 2.4L Mustang LX for FREE from a family friend. I've fixed the clutch, changed many parts and got new wheels. I'm almost ready to go! The only problem with it now, is the parking brake. I was pulling it apart and noticed that the center cable from the handle to the box thing (I'm not to car literate) was broken. Went to the local parts store where I've gotten all of my other parts, and they said that they don't sell them, only the longer cables. Any ideas on what I can do for it? I was suggested to go to a dealer, but I was wondering if that was the best idea. is there a website I could buy the cable from? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

If your really ambitious you could try finding one at a junkyard. It would be waaaaaaay cheaper than the dealer.

Okay, so I went to the local junk yard, only to find that there isn’t a mustang in sight. To bad for that Idea... Next I went to the dealer, because I needed a few things anyways. They were extremely helpful, printed me off a couple of things, ordered me a few things like a used drivers side tail light, and gave me quotes on my E-Brake cables. $55 each! That seamed a little much, so I went to the local automotive store with the same serial number. They were only $13.50 a piece. Nice comparative shopping. So, I take my old cables off, and notice something...the cable sheath is different. Instead of being in many pieces like the old ones, the sheaths on the new cables I got are one piece. And not only that, it would be to short. Could I cut the sheath on the one in half and make it more like the other one or should I try to find the cables exactly like the older ones? The S/N's are the same between the dealer and the part store, so that shouldn’t make a difference should it?
