well like the title says the windows only roll up or down with the driver door open I used to be able to hit the door and theyd work but know i have to open the door any idea if its bad switch or what.

Honestly, it sounds to me like you have pinched wire in your door somewhere. That seems like that would be the only reason why it would only work if the door is open.
