Default 1990 Mustang LX 2.3L Electric Fan Question

Just bought my son a 90' LX 2.3. Previous owner told me up front that the electric fan didn't work correctly so he hard wired it to come on all the time ( with the key on) I want to fix this correctly, What turns the fan on? Thanks.

This might be a dumb question but did you check your fuses? also i would check out the temp sensors. does your gauge still work?

Assuming the '90 is the same as the '92, the fan is actually switched by the Integrated Relay Module. That's a black box mounted on the right strut tower under the hood. It's under control of the computer, and is switched on when an overtemp condition is near, and also when the air conditioner is on, if you have that. I know of these two conditions; there may be more. Hope this helps.

P S I believe the sensor which triggers the fan switch and the one which drives the guage are seperate sensors.

Thanks I will check into that relay, I had a feeling it was something like that, I need to find a service manual for this car. BTW I don't think the gauge works.

Hey Ford66 Me And My Brother By Pass The Relay And Wire Switch To The Fan So I Can Turn It On When I Need Too. We Did Get Another Fan Motor And Fan Plug To Wire It To The Switch And Just Tuck The Fan Plug Out Of The Way That Came With The Car.

I Got A 89 Mustang Lx 2.3l Efi And Had Problems With The Fan To Cool The Engine Down.
