I'm having a very bad lack of power, also hesitation and sometimes dieing at stops after getting to normal temps. Its not cooling problems its at normal temps, and I've done all the simple things, also have an error code for the O2 sensor and EGR valve but have replaced both and reset the computer and am still getting code.
88 2.3liter - Check your compression and do a tune up if you havn't already
Aimbot - do a tune up and make sure you don't have any vacuum leaks. Also check to make sure your IAC is working right. Also try replacing your TFI and PIP connector if it only dies when your at normal temp

The sad thing is, with 15 PSI, straight back exhaust, and a bobs log, it still feels slow...
Maybe 20PSI, new computer, new 3" VAM, and some porting will make it faster
Also as for vacuum, I had a valve in my tranny go bad and was leaking tranny fluid in the vacuum system and burning thro the exaust. and another thing my AC/Heating fan controls are vacuum based and are stuck on floor, but was having the power problems long before this happend, anyone know a place that I can buy all new vacuum parts and such?
An edit to my OP, it guzzles gas, but isnt dumping it out the tail and theres no smoke, and no smell under the hood, im talking maybe 13mpg out of a 4banger
I'm at a loss, will get a tune up and change the IAC ASAP, have a few other parts to get to.
If anyone knows a good place online to get parts and such let me know
sounds like your timing is off, allot. If it is advanced too much you get good high rpm power but almost nothing bottom end and that can drasticly affect your millage, as most people keep rpm around 2,000-3,500 while crusing. The timing belt may have, althogh not likely, jumped a tooth.
i have a 1992 mustang 2.3 and i am having trouble thinking of ways to make it faster. I don't have the money for a 5.0. i want to make it an 8 sec car with the four banger any suggestions on how to do that

8 seconds in the quarter mile? Built turbo motor.
8 seconds in the eighth mile? SVO motor.

My 2.3FI, has Coils not a distributer, so no PIP or TFI, Acording to my Haynes anyway
I own a '93 2.3L, as well. There is a TFI. They don't have to be attached to a distributor. It's a module. So, it only need to be attached to something that is a ground. Look on the intake manifold, just behind the alternator/power steering. It'll be attached to the lower plenum of the intake. The PIP on the '93 2.3L is actually a crank sensor, mounted inside the timing cover.
An added note: If your auto trans blew the modulator, you'll have to change the two pieces of vacuum line from the modulator to the vacuum tree. You did say that the engine ingested some ATF, right?

what is a svo motor and how many litters is it?? a have a 351 how hard would it be to put that in?? what a modifications would i have to do???
A SVO motor has the same displacement (size) as your current motor, 2.3L.
The 351 might work, but you'd have to get a different K-member, trans, driveshaft, and rear axle. Plus, you'd probably be looking to have it carbureted, instead of injected (to safe money on the build).

if i was to pull a 5.0 out of a mustang the trans and drive shaft could i just put the in the 2.3 place
Jrobb1992,
It's almost as simple as that. You'll have to figure out what it'll take to make the engine run, when you get it installed.
To install it correctly, you'll have to change the K-member (where the engine mounts to) to one from a V8 Stang. The 2.3 ones are not strong enough to carry the weight of the 5.0 and not flex badly. I thought about doing that to my 2.3L. You can go the lightweight route and just put a tubular K-member in there. There are kits that convert the front suspensions to a coil-over spring type and ones that use the conventional setup. You'll need to update the rear axle, as well. The 7.5", that came in your car, won't last very long. It's not designed for that kind of torque loads.
It doesn't really matter which way you go, the money is always the deciding factor.
Hope this info helps you out.
