I just bought a 2.3L with 89K miles that the codes show a lean situation. The car cranks and idles fine and once pedal is past 1/3 throttle picks up and runs fine. It just hesitates between idle and 1/3 thottle. The CEL comes on intermittently at times while accelerating at speed. I think it could be a fuel system problem.
Anyone had this situation? and what items should I check or replace.
The obvious things are fuel filter, air filter, distributor cap and rotor, PVC, plugs and plug wires.
I do that with any used car just so I know when to replace them in the future, but it also helps correct common defects, if it has any. I also change the oil, but that doesn't sound like your problem.

I'm sorry, I did not mention that I have changed oil, oil filter, Air Filter, fuel filter and plugs.
No dist. 93 has the dual plugs. I checked and all plugs and they are are fireing.
My car is doing the same thing now, I'm guessing its either the TPS or the IAC
Same, I'm about to change my IAC ($79.99USD at Autozone.com) and am getting my compresion checked and if it comes back bad I'll just get a rings and gaskets job
Also anyone having a problem of oil in the intake(I mean when I take my air intake hose off there is a small puddle of oil), I think thats what caused my IAC to go bad, and would it be bad to just put a small filter on the cam cover and plug the one on the intake? I'm pretty sure thats were its coming from.

Reason: link problem
my engine ran excessively lean - it was caused by a loose vacuum hose that had oil in it and worked itself loose at but not off its junction point. further checking showed that the vacuum modulator on the transmission had failed which was an inexpensive repair. this was 2 years ago - no problems since then.
At the time I had the repair done several factors were in place.First, the vacuum hose disconnected completely when I hit a pothole; the car was difficult to start and the transmission would not shift properly. Second, the transmission was extremely low on fluid and there was no evidence of external leakage or oil on the garage floor. Third, prior to this, codes in the stored memory had indicated the engine was running lean and that the transmission was not shifting properly from 4th to 3rd; at the time i could not find the fault. After hitting the pothole I found the disconnected vacuum line (near the power brake) and the fact that it was contaminated internally with oil. The transmission shop changed the vacuum regulator (on the side of the transmission) and the problem was solved. I also checked my PCV valve and it was ok.
