Default 1988 Mustang LX, Oil Pressure

I need to know what the proper oil pressure should be for a 1988 LX 2.3L. I bought the car very cheap because I was told that it needed new main bearings due to low pressure readings according to the OEM GUAGE. I repalced it with mechanical guage and I am showing a constant 35/40 psi reading.

I do have other concerns with this car so I will be asking more questions later on.

Oh. My other main concern is how do I convince my wife that this is a MUSTANG ,so who cares about the 30 mpg that I am getting at this time. Mustangs are suppose to be very loud and fast.

35-40 is normal for idle. Or at least thats where my car is (i think, stock gauge)

If you want fast throw a turbocoupe engine in it

The sad thing is, with 15 PSI, straight back exhaust, and a bobs log, it still feels slow...

Maybe 20PSI, new computer, new 3" VAM, and some porting will make it faster

Proof positive why you never use a factory gauge for measurement. They're good for indication, but that's about it. If you're seeing 35-40 psi on a decent mechanical gauge, then you've got plenty of oil pressure. and the motor is fine. The seller didn't know any better and you ended up with a better deal than you originally thought! Cool!

5.0 Mustangs are supposed to be loud and fast!

2.3 Mustangs are supposed to start and run everyday, last forever, get great gas mileage, then get picked up by someone who ends up dropping a V8 or a 2.3T in the sucker and then life for the car begins again.

35-40 psi is fine. More is just more oil flow. As long as it doesn't drop to zero once it's warmed up, you're ok.
