hello everyone...i recently took out a 5.0 and replaced it with a 2.3 engine transmission wiring harness and all from a donor car. i have everything hooked up...i think! car will crank but not start. one of the wires going into the coil harness has power when key is turned on and one doesnt. i dont think the coil itself is bad because it was on the original donor car and it worked fine, and i also tried another coil and it didnt change anything. the wiring on the inside of the car is not finished being installed all the way, but if there is power going to the coil i wouldnt think that would matter....any thoughts suggestions would be appreciated!
i have tried that but there is no spark coming off of the terminal on the coil. there is a plastic wiring harness piece that fits into it with two wires going in...both wires are hot when the ignition is turned on and when the car is cranking, but no spark, i retried another coil that i have and no spark with it either, i even pulled a spark plug and turned off the lights in the garage just to make sure there was no spark. should both of these terminals be hot?
i recently took out a 5.0 and replaced it with a 2.3
You did WHAT?????
Sorry, that just doesn't make a whole lotta sense...
As far as power to the coil, check wiring diagrams in the Chilton book for the fox-body and make sure you don't need to re-pin something on the ECM harness or dash harness to make it all work out.

i know it seems a little odd! i bought this 85 hatch with a broken 4cyl in it for my son that is about to begin driving...took it out put in a 300+hp 302 and figured that it was a little too much engine for my son to start out with. anyway in the mean time i had bought a 93 4cyl car because it had a nice complete interior and i updated the older car with it, and the more i thought about it the more it made sense to put the good 4cyl from that car in it as well...so i removed the 302 and put in the 93 4cyl and complete wiring harness from the donor car which was running and driving before so that is why i am so confused about why its not working now
Just like there were different eras of 5.0 cars, there were different eras of 2.3 cars.
The computers are different. Hell the entire ignition system is different between 85 and 93
You may need more out of the 85 than you've swapped so far.
Your 93 had the dual plug motor and no distributor. There's some common wiring between the 85 and 93, but I don't think they're pin for pin with their respective ECU.
It can be done. It's gonna take one of those Sam's Club bottles of Excedrin though..
The point I was trying to make is that this is not your typical "my '93 Mustang has no spark" thread. There's no way anyone is going to make the call on this one without actually seeing the car, seeing the installation, and running through what was done and how it was done. Too many variables to deal with through a keyboard.
there is nothing 85 about the car except the body.... every bit of the motor and wirning harness was taken from a 93 there is no 85 left in that respect...i took out all of the 85 wiring
