Question 1993 Mustang 2.3 No Power

First of all let me start off by saying, I'm not an expert on cars, but, money dictates that I have to try to work on it first myself. I bought this car for 600 bucks, the guy said he was going to replace the exhaust but ended up busting off a stud off the manifold, so he got it welded back on, but didn't bother to put on the exhaust, so I hauled it home, bought the exhaust system, attempted to put it on, couldn't get it tight to the manifold, but have it on. The car idles rough, when you accelerate it has no power when its floored, until you reach about 45 miles per hour then it kicks in, but will buck here and there. When its idleing it sounds like there is a vacumm leak, I found a silver looking piece with 2 hoses coming out of it, if you put your finger on the bottom of it, it sucks up your finger, and the vacumm sound stops, and it idles better, not sure what that is supposed to be? Gas mileage is horrible, you can fill it up and drive it 40 miles and basically its gone. I think it has a leak in the transmission too, as it has puddles on the concrete. Someone have any suggestions?

hmm well dude id suggest 1st changing plugs wires oil oil filter fuel filter just a basic tune up. then get a haynes guide for a mustang 93 2.3L, look throught the guide were that vaccum line leads to you might be missing a rubber hose that goes there to somthing else. and your said you got that exhaust on there but not good, not tight. well thats were some of you power loss will be and that vaccum line also will help power and if you do the tune up like i said, it will feel as if your driving the car right out of the dealer

+1

for the vacuum leak, get that fixed

then give it a tune up, adjust ur timing and take that knock sensor off (thought that's probably not causing this problem, you will hate it eventually)

i agree with the guys above, also check that timing belt,we had one in the shop a couple weeks ago and the belt was 2 teeth off,a new belt and tensioner installed properly made it run fine.
