Unhappy need help with changing speedo gear? on 1990 Mustang LX

Hey stangers. Got a few questions about changing the speedometer gear in my '90 lx. Since my '90 was backed into before I bought it, it was hit on the front drivers side, putting a big dent in the fender. So to take the fender off to fix it, I had to take the driver's front wheel off. Well sometime between taking the wheel off and putting it back on, the speedo gear I believe must of broke somehow. So ever since I've had the car back together, when I drive it it makes a sound that speeds up the faster I go and it's coming from the driver's side front wheel, causing the speeometer to jump around a little while I'm driving. Now am I right and is it the speedometer gear? Or is it something else? Could I get the speedo gear or whatever at the local Autozone? And idea how much one would be? I've been driving with this for a little bit now and I need to get this fixed soon. Thanks very much fellow stangers in advance.

The speedometer gear isn't anywhere near the front wheel. It's attached to the end of the speedo cable where it goes into the transmission.

Trace the speedometer cable where it comes out of the firewall and down to the trans and inspect it for damage.
