Default 1988 Mustang Heater Blowing Warn, Not Hot Air?

I recently bought a 1988 mustang conv. (2.4L LX) a few months ago. The heater does blow "warm" air but not hot air. And I live in New York so winter is around the corner and this warm air is not enough anymore. I have flushed the heater core the best I could, but it didn't help. The car is from florida and the orginal owner moved up to New York and sold it to me. So I have heard there might be some sort of heater valve between the the air conditioner to help the air conditoner. So knowing that this is from florida, if there is this valve it prolly cutting on heat. But I can't find the valve, I bought a service manual and it doesn't mention a valve. Can anyone instruct me on what this valve is called and what it looks like, it would be really nice too if someone has a 88' mustang or knows if a 88' mustang has this valve. Or any other suggestions why my heater is not blowing hot air.

Thanks for your help.

I have an '88 coupe and I'm not aware of any valve in the water flow. You might check the adjustment of the temperature control cable. It's supposed to be self adjusting, but it needs an inch and a quarter or so of free end beyond the sliding adjuster to start with. You might be able to get to it through the glove compartment opening with the door down (with difficulty).

Oh, and be sure you have a good thermostat in it.

+1 on the thermostat. Being a former Florida car, there's a strong chance the thermostat has been removed.

Pull the twist knob off (just pull straight back on the knob) of the temperature dial on the control panel inside the car and check to see if the plastic on the otherside of the knob is broken. If it is, then switch knobs with another control next to it, buy new ones or use pliers and try turning the dail.

The temperature setting dial is harder to turn than the others and often times will crack the plastic knob not allowing you to fulling turn the actual gauge it is connected to (pretty common among fords with this set up, mine broke too). This gauge controls that flap you mentioned. The system is controlled by vacuum pressure and needs to be properly sealed to function correctly, so check the vacuum lines and fittings inside the car. Maybe a line got unhooked or is broken.

kudos to the pliers idea. mine had broken and i had to do that for a while. check also the temp of ur car, my radiator is amazing i have to run it half empty for it warm up at all and it still sits a 130 or below. since these cars run on the coolent temp if ur thermostat is removed it will never heat up, also i've heard of covering part of the radiator with cardboard to block the air, espeically hard to warm up these little engines in the winter...
