The temperature setting dial is harder to turn than the others and often times will crack the plastic knob not allowing you to fulling turn the actual gauge it is connected to (pretty common among fords with this set up, mine broke too). This gauge controls that flap you mentioned. The system is controlled by vacuum pressure and needs to be properly sealed to function correctly, so check the vacuum lines and fittings inside the car. Maybe a line got unhooked or is broken. |
kudos to the pliers idea. mine had broken and i had to do that for a while. check also the temp of ur car, my radiator is amazing i have to run it half empty for it warm up at all and it still sits a 130 or below. since these cars run on the coolent temp if ur thermostat is removed it will never heat up, also i've heard of covering part of the radiator with cardboard to block the air, espeically hard to warm up these little engines in the winter...
