I pretty much know I just want to bolt in a complete intercooled Turbo 2.3 not Turbo my n/a 2.3. I know the 5 speed would be easier and work better with a Turbocharged engine but this car is pretty much a driver. Besides MT 85 GT is a 5speed and my truck is a stick.
Question is can I mod the tranny behind my n/a 2.3 to the Turbo car specs? Or did the Turbo Birds & Cougers use a different transmission like the AOD?

Some turbo 2.3s used the C3 3-spd automatic (I know the Merkur XR4Ti did) and others used the A4LD. If you've got your heart set on an automatic I'd go with the C3 from a turbo car, as the A4LD was an even lighter-duty variant of the already light-duty C3. The advantage of the A4LD would be overdrive, the advantage of the C3 would be durability.

I am wanting to keep the OD. The car is more of a DD than anything, just want more ooomph, lol.
I like to keep the 2.3 car around because it's easy for me to drive, I have serious joint issues in my shoulders & arms & it's a Stang. I am just looking for something cool to do with it that keeps the fuel mileage and it's easy character, hence the Turbo swap.
My 85 GT wouldn't get driven much regardless of the manual tranny, near mint original car. It only comes out in nice weather and mostly to shows.
