Default 1981 Mercury Zephyr 2.3 won't go when wet.

This happened to me for like the 6th or 7th time. It just doesn't want to go. I thought I had the problem fixed but I guess not. Heres a description of what happens.

It starts and idles fine. You drive for a maybe a minute then it acts funny and stalls out. Luckly this has never happend it traffic. Then after I fight it off the road and try and start it, it floods for some reason. The only time this has happend to me is when it was really cold one morning. There was a hard freeze and it was about 15 degrees. This was last winter. Other times there is a heavy dew or it has rained pretty good. But yesterday coming home from work it did it to me again. Ran fine got in traffic and would not go faster then 45mph. Drove it on to a side street and hot roded it. Parked it gunned the engine and it was fine.

I've repaled the plug wires, plugs, cap/rotor and the coil. This only happens when it wet. Either rain/frost or a dew. I can't figure it out.
Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks
Mike

check under the distributor cap next time this happens, if there is moisture in there this will cause these kinds of symptoms, if you know the cap is good (not cracked and seats properly) you could have a crack in the distributor housing letting moisture in.

This is just one of several possibilities, but it's an easy/cheap one to check for first.

The cap seats pretty well. How hard its it to change the distributor on the 2.3?
