Default 1989 Mustang LX, 2.3 erratic idle problem

Howdy folks, new member here.

I'm having an idle problem with a 1989 LX hatchback, 2.3, AC, automatic, mostly when the car is warm. The idle is more often than not erratic and sometimes stalls. The idle will drop to about 600 RPM and then jump to about 1500, then drop down again and nearly stall or stall completely. The car also hesitates from a stop. Up until yesterday it seemed to only happen in park, but now it's also happening in gear too. For instance, I was stuck in traffic this afternoon and sometimes it would idle fine and sometimes it would struggle to keep running or jump up to about 1500 RPM for a second. I've been looking at similar threads and a few other folks suggested cleaning out the IAC, which I just did. It was a bit dirty, but definitely nothing was obstructing the passage. I just reinstalled the IAC and started the car with no change. Also, the check engine light is not on, does this mean no codes?

Any other suggestions?

Thanks!

hey this was happening to me for a while, my car would tend to idle funny and then stall when i shifted into reverse

all you need is a new idle air control valve, i think i got mine for about 70, but it made it run so much better

It was the map...I replaced it earlier tonight and cleared up the idle.

Maybe 20PSI, new computer, new 3" VAM, and some porting will make it faster
