Question 1993 Mustang Lx Hatchback 2.3L Battery Problems?

Hi, I am pretty new to this site, but I've been having problems with my new mustang. It is a 1993 Lx Hatchback 2.3L Automatic. After driving it for about 2 days the battery just dies after I've already fully charged. I've went through two batteries that both work in my other fords. I replaced all the spark plugs, battery terminals, and the owner before me put a new alternator and transmission on it. I believe that I hooked up everything that wasn't already. I think I probably have a electrical problem, but I don't know what else to do. Just need a little help. Thanks,
Nick

If you are going through batteries, could be over charging. Have you checked the alt output at the battery with a voltage tester? Should read aroud 13-14 volts when running.

Check to make sure the ALT. is charging your battery

Yes, I did check it with a voltage tester and is putting out between 14-15 amps. And I check if the alt. was charging the battery and it is. So, is there anything else that would be killing my batteries? I can not even be driving it and the battery would just go dead.

Your voltage regulator is probably shot

Ok, thanks how much do they usually run for? I looked at Advance Auto Parts and they have one for $92. Is that normal or high?

Have the alternator tested. On your model year mustang, the regulator is built into the alternator.

When you said 14-15 amps, you meant volts right?

Alt. is perfect and battery is good. I got them tested today. Is there anyway or place I could go to see where exactly my battery is being drained from? I'm going to charge the battery again over night and see what happens tomarrow. I starting to wonder about this car.

when you say drained or dead do you mean as in the car won't crank or do you mean the headlights won't even come on? This is very important info. If your headlights come on bright but the car won't crank then jump the starter contactor on the drivers fender under the plastic cover if the car cranks replace the contactor if it does not the you may need a starter.
Clean your battery cables all of them all the way to the starter.
You have two plugs that plug into your alt. the one closest to the block melts inside replacements are about 5 bucks check this. because a poor connection here can should good voltage but as soon as your bat starts to draw amps the connection opens and charging goes away.

You could have a dead short running the battery down when not in use. easiest way to check is to get a test light. Remove the positive end battery cable from battery and clamp the ground end of test light to the cable end. take the probe end of test light and now touch the positive post on the battery. If the test light lights up..you have a dead short somewhere. While having the test light touching..have someone go to the fuse panel and pull fuses one at a time and put them back in. Watch the test light and when the one fuse that gets pulled makes the light go out..find out what that fuse goes to and that should be your source.
good luck
