ok so my 93 mustang lx was having problems starting and when i finally get it to start and i come to a complete stop.. i press the gas and it starts to kinda bog down and makes backfire noises under the engine.. i changed the fuel filter and air filter.. it still boggs down and makes the backfire noise.. any ideas??

i suggest check for any codes and run a fuel pressure test..also check the basics,cap,button,wires,etc..

You just might need a tune up. You can check the items that Heavy Metal suggested, but if you haven't had a tune up for a long time, it just might need some maintenance. It also could be the catalytic converter as FG suggested. The backfiring can suggest a timing problem. Make sure your plug wires are in the distributor in the proper order. It can also suggest unwarranted movement in the timing belt that changed the valve timing. Take it to a good shop and they will figure it out for you.

Did anybody pay attention to the fact that he's got a '93 model car that doesn't have a distributor?
