Default 2005 Mustang GT... Accidentally shifted into 2nd at 80+... Did I damage anything??

I was just wondering if any one else has had this happen.Last night while racing an old Chevelle, when shifting from 3rd to 4th for some reason it goes into 2nd gear doing almost 85-95 mph. When I letting out the clutch the rear tires chirpped like if i hit the e-brake and I pushed in the clutch and went to 4th gear.I know the engine reved to probablly red line approx?Does anyone think I caused any damage or messed something up? p.s. I still beat that chevelle.

Nope... You'd have hit the rev limiter which would have prevented engine damage. Transmission damage on the other hand...

If anything, what would be the first to give in the tranny or get damaged? It seems to run fine, warranty expires in march.

Honestly I doubt if you did any damage. The TR3650 is pretty beefy. I think a lot of us have probably done the same thing.

Dang, I would have !$!$#@ my pants if that happened to me! I was having my car dyno'd a month ago and a gasket blew on it....and I was scared that I just $@^%$ up my engine. It did no harm and was easily fixed under the warranty! So STL is correct...these engines are tough!

THANKS for the response guys.Do you think that installing a hurst or bbm short throw shifter would reduce the likleyhood of this happening again?

Yes it would help. But I think the Pro 5.0 and MGW provide a better 2nd-3rd feel. I know I used to occasionally miss 3rd with the Hurst but never since I installed the 5.0

The rev. limiter is only good for an electronic safety under power. You can still over speed the motor with by mechanically pushing the motor by down shifting like that. I'm not saying he did any damage but you can if your not carefull

+1 to travelers.....

I did it twice... no issue other than scaring the crap out of myself. you may want to look into getting a k-member brace with torque limiters to help that issue.

Your right I had it happen when I had the stock shifter but felt it before I had the clutch out. The K-member is a great addition.

I think the shifter makes the bigger difference.
