Default Problem installing oil temp gauge in 2007 mustang gt

I succesfully installed an autometer electric h20 temp and oil pressure gauge over the weekend. However the oil temp gauge (electric) x-300 degrees reads over 300 all the time. The sensor is installed on a filter relocation adaptor. I don't think its the wiring since its the same as the other gauges. Could it be a bad sensor? thanks

A false negative (as in the gauge always reading zero) would make me think it was a bad connection. However, since you have a false positive (always maxed out) I would suspect a bad sensor first.

But of course, check your wiring first.

You said it is installed in an adapter. Is there oil flow past the sensor? If it is a "dead end" it will max the temp very quickly.

Its on the output side off the adaptor in a brass tee fitting that goes to an oil cooler and then back to another tee where i have my oil pressure sender then back into the engine.

Did you get it fixed? The oil temp and water temp sensors are the same. You can always swap them and see whether the problem moves or not. If it moves to the water temp, the sensor is bad.
