Default 07 convertible top and auto trans questions

Alright, i have been wondering about these two things for a while so lets see what you guys/gals have to say.

1) when i am operating my convertible top when its time to drop the top, in what position do you leave the handles? i tend to leave mine in the open position but not "clicked" downward but up so the handle is straight. But when my father took my car out the other day (so he could sneak into work without the guys noticing him so he could check up on them and see if they were slacking ) he opened the top, lower it a few inches to give him the clearance, then he put the handles back into the "closed" position that they are in when the top is up. Which way do you keep your tops, or which is the better way? i always feel bad about hitting the button twice because the motor always makes this whiny noise if i do it and it just sounds bad even though its probably nothing.

2) when i am on any angle of road be if flat or facing up or down. When i am in reverse and backing into a spot and go to put the car into Park it makes a bad "clunk" and its kind of hard to shift into park. It will do it, but i have to give the brake a firm push with my foot. However, i have discovered that if i go from Reverse to Neutral, then quickly go to Park i can avoid the clunk. Does this do any form of harm going that way?

On a side note) I remember that someone told me when my car is running and in Neutral, that its bad for the engine because when you are in Neutral as opposed to Park some oil pump or fuel pump or something was not on and thus bad for the engine. Do you know anything about that or am i just confusing two different things that i was told ages ago.

Once again, thanks for any help/input

James

I have had many Mustang convertibles and I always return the latches to the closed position (like your dad) when I drop the top.
Why? Simple. I have had convertible tops show wear marks from the handles being left out when opening the top.
neutral wont hurt anything that is bs.

This is my first ragtop and I close/lock the handles again as well. Just seems like the thing to do, but good question and I'll be awaiting sage wisdom on this thread also.

When I picked up my 07 convertible the salesman showed me how to operate the top. After starting the top to go down he returned the handles to the closed position. It has been a year now and I've always done it this way, I just figured he knew what he was doing. There certainly have been no ill effects from doing it this way.
